Is it possible that you always had random crashes on startup with il2ge (or even without it?) - just not as often as recently?

I think you are right; but only very occasionally. Certainly not 20+ times consecutively, as was the case when I first reported.

EDIT - I have just tried the latest build and seem to get similar results? The game starts at one or two attempts (max 3 so far) - this is fine  ;D

Also;

# disabling this gives higher fps but looks bad
EnableObjectShaders=1

# enable terrain bumpmapping
EnableBumpH=1

# cirrus clouds - experimental
EnableCirrusClouds=1

# new effect renderer - experimental
EnableEffects=0

# new lighting system - experimental
EnableLightPoint=0

But cirrus clouds are not visible?

Good hear :)
Although that's no guarantee that there won't be more crashes again in the future.
A re-install will probably help.

No cirrus problems with the last build (they're visible).
Running on BAT and ModAct.

Using any IL2 map or mission , as soon as an explosion happens or I fire the guns I get crashed back to desktop here is il2ge log , thanks in advance , sorry if this is the wrong thread to post on

A quick guess: do you have water set to anything but 0?

That is the problem: GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY.
How much video memory do you have?
