Gubi mentioned it in the chat...

Code: [Select]
[08|Oct 11:14 PM] Gubi: Quote of the day: Today, -bb-...53 minutes into an ingress situation with the FAC (they will witness this...)...flak up, gerula and skylla's flights are separated...
[08|Oct 11:15 PM] Gubi: ...55 minutes...into the valley of the shadow of death. Silence... "-bb-...fuck..I flew all this way for a head shot?"
[09|Oct 12:15 AM] Gubi: ...indeed...gerula's squad was shot to pieces...from no lack of trying, I must say... Then it was Skylla's turn. He had the Strorebror...and a couple other cats...Printe, I think... ...and they were going to handle it...
[09|Oct 12:15 AM] Gubi: ...all we need now are Mike's pictures... Cheers and prost...

The scene when -bb- died (click for 8K pics) (more to come 8) ).
1st pic shows the group leader gerula to the right, in front of -bb-

"He's dead Jim!"

Background:
August 9, 1945: World War II is coming to an end. A Canadian, Lt. Robert Hampton Gray, leads eight Corsairs in an attack against Japanese military targets. To everyone’s surprise, Gray undertakes a suicidal assault on an armed escort ship in Onagawa Bay on the island of Honshu, the mainland of Japan. Posthumously, he’s awarded the highest military honour: the Victoria Cross. In this documentary, filmmaker Ian Herring journeys to make sense of Gray’s final act and determine the meaning of heroism in peacetime.

Here we are flying a mission inspired by this historical event, perfectly staged by =CFC=Conky aka Sillius_Sodus.
The 1st pic shows gerula and his wingman -bb- being first to reach Onagawa Bay, immediately starting their attack.
Unfortunately -bb- fell victim of enemy AA gunners before he could drop his load.

I guess it makes sense to take a look how it (read: the Hampton Gray mission) all started.
Click for 8K pics.

This is skylla getting off the deck from HMS Indomitable, pennant number 92, a modified Illustrious-class aircraft carrier of the Royal Navy.
Up right on the deck in a slightly uncomfortable position for takeoff there's Loku, whatever he's doing there.
Skylla is carrying a 1000lb GP bomb and two "Tiny Tim"s, wearing "RN-X" markings:

A part of our task group.
Carriers front to back: HMS Illustrious (lead ship of her class), HMS Indomitable (see above) and HMS Formidable (also Illustrious class CV).
The other ships left to right are: HMS Duke of York (King George V-class BB battleship), HMS Jupiter (J-class destroyer) and HMS Kipling (K-class destroyer).
On deck of the HMS Illustrious you can see me, on the deck of the HMS Indomitable there's Loku still waiting for X-Mas and on the deck of HMS Formidable there is Gubi at the Spawn point, BalDaddy floating in the air behind (WTF?) and then there's some unknown plane floating aside of the carrier.

This is a group of B-29s supporting our troops:

And here we see "Rocketman" -bb-, the tragic here of the previous two screenshots, carrying Tiny Tim's and 5'' HVAR rockets.
If you look real close, you can spot Ricky aka Ghost129er in the lower right corner of the image:

To be continued...

1st group forming up, leader is gerula (front plane) followed by -bb-.
Ricky/Ghost129er is not shown here as he has fallen back a bit, later Blaubär will join the group.

Don't worry Ricky, you've been caught on camera in bigger pictures too.

And finally Blaubär coming closer too, so you can see the full first group here.

Did I mention already that I love the shape of the Heinkels?

Back to Hampton Gray, these are three planes of the second flight, with flight leader skylla in front, Loku behind him and me to the right.
Printe is missing on the image.
