Stuka Attack, why I love this sim - warts and all-screenies
« on: July 30, 2011, 10:02:46 AM »

( Originally posted over on the Official CloD website...)I've had similar install problems as everyone else , ( & some continuing ones even now,BUT boy once you get it going this really delivers! There is something new in CloDworld to be seen on nearly every mission. This series of screenies show a mission in the defauly campaign for the Luftwaffe ( not one of the brilliant translated 3rd party missions...just the one built into the game...) Itoccurs midway thru the campaign whereyouare given a Bf-110 to fly...which I did ,but after seeing the results of the Stuka attack on the ships I wanted to be closer to that mayhem & switch to be a Stuks pilot ( which is sooooooooooo easy to do in CloD...what fun! Also I went to a view of the ships to see the attackfrom their angle Honestly this would be better as a vid , but I have no idea how to do that so,here are a mass of screenshots:
The Stukas:

The Targets:

The attack:

results from the air:

As seen from orbitting 110's:

and down at sea level- they get hammered:

A closeup of one of the deck guns ( complete with gunner ) that keeps on firing as the ship goes down ( shades of" In Which We Serve...")

I only wish the ships had a bow wave, but other than that this little fight is something to see.I was esp. drawn to the bright flashes of internal explosions which could be seen from way up high where the 110s were-WOW!
As an old time Il-2 fan I have to admit that the modded version of it does almost everything as well or better ( effects -wise ) than the fledgling CloD and at a much better FPS rate, but boy I can also see the future is here...It may take 2 years to get it straight & give us new planes & better effects , be mor user friendly & MORE FPS, but this mission & more like it are  just fun ..AND after the attack I can switch over to be a 110 flieger to battle the incoming Hurricanes or vice versa...without skipping a beat.Unreal!

impressive cockpits - no doubt , but in the end it still
looks like Stukas in a cloudless sky bombing transports on a ocean of blueberry jelly -

Too true...but cast your mind back to the first days of Il-2...it was quantom leaps above all else but not the sim we have today esp thanks to the mods found here & elsewhere...and remember when it was a big secret to even discuss mods?
Having said that the cockpits are the big sell so far, they are very very immersive...the exterior effects not so much...but there is still alot there ot discover...

i think the water looks fine....

and there's only no clouds because he probably hast hat option set in the realism/video settings for no clouds to increase his fps

overall, i think this is a very great sim. but everybody has their own opinion, i guess.

Clouds are bad on the FPS...but a new game card is in my future perhaps....

Can't tell you ...don't know how to diagnose same , maybe another can?I can tell you that flying thru clouds or smoke diminishes FPS noticably.

Phlegethon_Here are some screenshots with clouds...also an interior shot showing interior condensation that appears after a few seconds of flying thru clouds. These effects do slow down FPS and are esp. noticable when using "telephoto" viewto get better shots attacking enemy aircraft- things get very jerky & tough to draw a bead on the enemy aircraft...anyway here you go , quite pretty anyway( also note they cast shadows on aircraft under them:)

Those would be nice mods, cloud shadows and condensation.
How does COD look at high altitude compared to 1946?
