Updated Boeing 377/C-97 Stratocruiser pack for IL-2 1946 modded.

Hello guys, here is a link for the update of the old pack with new 3d parts and java. ;)

The 10th August date on the zip is correct, this has been available elsewhere for testing.

Mediafire link:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/p53bw7hava45pe5/C-97_pack_updated_10th_August_2018.7z/file

For those experiencing difficulties with parts of the cockpit disappearing please try this version:

Mediafire link:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/dqk7xckah99th20/Cockpit_alteration_for_C-97_pack_V2.zip/file

Just take the C-97 folder in this download and replace the one currently in the cockpit folder, leave the 'KC_97P-BGun' as it is there were no changes to that.

Tested in my 4.12.2 with SAS ModAct 5.30 using all suggested dependencies for Jet War by 4S_Vega and western0221 up to date.

Currently also running in a BAT update that has still to be released.

This has been under development for some time to provide a updated pack for BAT but it was also my intention that it should also be available as a public download in the forum available for users to add to their personal installs without the need to use a mod pack.

The models use components from the existing pack but also new 3d parts for fuselage and engines, some of those items come from the W.I.P. B-50 pack that was never released.

Credits:

Bison_M: Project lead and 3D original pack.

Pete Shaw aka Mission_bug: New 3d fuselage, new exhausts, keel modifications, modified templates, default skins and statics.

4S_Vega:  New classes with slot for additional tanker:

BUGLORD:  Original B-29 template.

PA_Jeronimo:  Wheel detail parts.

max_thehitman:  Improved wheel textures and plane properties entries.

Credits for original mods used:

1C: Maddox Games for IL-2
Flakiten for mod KB-29p
SAS ~ CirX for the Tu-4
GJE52 for KJ-1
Ranwers - for B-29,  "meteors'
Jaypack44 for templats and skins B-29
And to all those who I have not mentioned in this list.

From WIP B-29/B-50 readme:

B-29 & B-50 Pack by Aviator Mod Team *BETA*
********************************************
Based on original B-29s by 1C:Maddox
New 3D for B-50s and B-29T by Red_Fox90 and Lisek
B-29 Silverplater and bombs by O_Magpie, Fireball, SAS~Cirx, MrJolly, Lt.Wolf, Fat Duck, VC-81_BOLTER, O_Leigh, Max_Thehitman, Ranwers, Wolfighter, Twister & Santobr
KB-29 by Flakiten
Cockpits by CharlieChap and Kami_1 (extracted from HSFX6)
Java/Loadouts/FM for B-50s and B-29T by SAS~Anto
Additional java (cockpit/gunner code), updated B-29 3D,and FM work by BenitoMuso

Apologies to anyone I may have forgotten, this will be corrected for the final version.

Notes:

The aircraft over run the runways used for test on landing using AI.

The front facing nose wheel door while opened sits too high and too far forward this is because the B-29 did not have a command for this type of door to pivot here so it is attached to the leg to allow it to open and close, once closed it sits in the correct position.

The engine orientation is different on the transports and tankers, it was necessary for me to put them in gmax to alter this and the extracted part is not as smooth as the original 3d on the tankers.

The pilot view uses the previous version, however, due to the fact I could not satisfactorily align parts of that to mask the external new fuselage I added the internal skin from the new external model but it lacks detail:

(https://s15.postimg.cc/44szbj03v/2018.07.09_10-01-00.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/image/pr7zsjyo7/)

Alex, Bison_M, reports issues with this if used without Open GL, the part causes graphical issues so you might have to use a older version from the existing pack.

Tanker statics show the boom deployed so part of it is below the surface when added to a map.

Hope all you guys like what is here, my 3d work is far from perfect but with the contributions from others it brings the old pack up to date and completes a project that was begun many years ago, enjoy. ;)

Thank you very much to all who have followed and contributed to this project, your help is really appreciated. 8)

What you have in the link is also currently running in a BAT update that has still to be released, thanks especially to 4S_Vega and SAS~vampire and Bison_M for their continuing work with this project and on that pack. ;)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Looks superb ecf111, looking forward to seeing what skins you guys can do for this. ;)

The template is what I used for the old franken skins I did, I tried to move or add certain insignia/codes to where they should be for the new model, however, I left most of original the codes for the civil and military types where they were but turned them off so you will have to check placement if you use them.

The B.O.A.C and Israeli codes are a case in point, if I have not placed them for use on the skins provided then they will have to be moved from the original place.  I tried as best I could to create a new set of trim lines so if you use those on the skins I provide as a base you should be okay, although you will find the nose has a slight step you need to adjust a little and I cannot guarantee there is no bleeding/warping outside those areas I provided.

The wings use the original B-29 lines, a shrunken version for the newly mapped underside outer wing is in the upper corner that originally had the B-29 crawl space painted.  The old engine lines were replaced with some new items although I might have left some items there but turned off, not sure.  The rear of the nacelles and the undercarriage doors I think still use the original lines.

I removed the original fuselage because the window cut outs caused some issues with codes and windows, the solid one allows the artist to paint the great variety of window type that would have been impossible if I had continued to use the original fuselage so gives more variety to what is painted, downside is I did not get to create the interior passenger layout. :D

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

It´s "SEXY"  8)

I have used all the cool words possible to describe this wonderful airplane before, so I am left with just calling it - "sexy" .

It´s a fine looking model Pete!
Congrats!

I have installed the mod but the cockpit window is coming up as a blank space above instrumental panel. How is this possible?

Does your view look like this?

(https://s15.postimg.cc/4nf0epuwr/Issue.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/image/t3x696vnb/)

If it does problems were reported if Open GL was not activated. ;)

Load your game and Go:

Setup:

Video modes:

Make sure perfect setting and Open GL are active.

If that does not work install the cockpit folder from the older pack and see what happens and please report back.

Hi, I am not sure as to the old pack. Can you please send me the link so that I can download it? Thanks.

This is the original franken pack that Alex, (Bison_M) put together it has his original cockpit. ;)

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,40461.0.html

When I added the new 3d there were visual problems with the old cockpit, you could see two different fuselages, so I added the internal skin from the new C-97 3d so it matched the external view, Alex and Filippo (4S_Vega) both had issues with my alterations so just swap the cockpit folder from the old franken pack with what you have and please post back your findings.

Second link down from Mediafire.

Note:

Sorry guys I tried the cockpit from the old pack myself and found it needed adjusting, please use the link in the first page if you are having difficulties. ;)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hello guys, for those who have been experiencing issues with the cockpit please try this. ;)

Mediafire link:

Moved to first page.  ;)

I am not sure why the issue only affects a few of you but this download restores the cockpit back as Alex built it by removing the C-97 inner fuselage skin I used in place of what was there originally.

Just take the C-97 folder in this download and replace the one currently in the cockpit folder, leave the 'KC_97P-BGun' as it is there were no changes to that.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Okay guys, glad to know your problem has been resolved, I have moved a new link into the first page. ;)

V2 corrected some errors in the second hier, if already working for you no need to download again I experienced a Blue screen while trying the cockpit in another version.

Links to skin threads also added to first page.

Hello Seb, I can see nothing in the log that helps me understand what is happening, sorry. :(

You say there is a crash, 30%, 60% or 70%?

All aircraft or one specific type?

This is intended for a 4.12 with ModAct 5.30 version of the game so I cannot guarantee it will work in anything else as that is what it was tested in.

Vega did the java for this to allow the tankers to fill various aircraft so I would think you certainly need the game equipped for JetWar with those dependencies up to date.

I have it running in a clean JetWar version of 4.12 with ModAct 5.30, just the C-97 pack, so it should not require any further aircraft in the game to make it run it is all in the download.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

The game is loading, but when I turned on the QMB, the picture freezes and throws the game into the cockpit.
I have everything installed that you wrote, also the latest version of SAS Engine Mod

Hello guys, there is a second cockpit version in the first page, please try that and see if it helps. ;)

I put the inner skin of the new fuselage into the cockpit folder of the main download to cure some alignment issues with the view, however, some in testing reported issues with parts of the cockpit view disappearing so the second link goes back to a earlier cockpit that Alex put together, worth a try Seb or as Glyn points out maybe try and find those textures.

Alex and Filippo mentioned they did not have OpenGL activated, that is why they found a cockpit issue in their game, maybe check that as well.

I have the pack in two versions of the game, one heavily modded, the other not, so sorry to say I cannot replicate the problem you have so other than trying the second cockpit I have no answer.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hello guys, I can fly these planes: "KC-97L-Drogue/Boom  but these others can´t "C-97/K and C-377".
Why?
Thank you so much

Hi Axel, If you have the B-29 Silverplate mod disable it and that should fix the problem. I did some testing in my game (4.12 modact 5.3 heavily modded) and
found that with the silverplate mod running i could only fly the same two aircraft. The C-97,C-97K and the C-377 would crash the game at 100% mission loading
in QMB.

I'm using 4.12.2m with SAS 5.30 and I tried with your advice, I disabled even similar mods like tu-4 or kj-1, but no luck, I can only use stratotankers... Passenger or transport variants causing crash in QMB at 100% mission loading. Odd thing is that old franken mod works fine.

Hello linux4all, could you post a log of your CTD please it might help me figure out why you are having difficulties. ;)

These links should help you with getting a logfile:

There were some people having issues with the original cockpit I used, not sure why but there is a link in the first page for a alternative.

This version also uses completely new java by Vega so please make sure all your engine mod and weapon packs are up to date from him and western as there were changes in the java to allow most game aircraft to refuel from the earlier tanker and the added one.

Tnx for quick reply.

I found an error. I'm not using complete Flyable AI mod, only SFS file in SFS_AUTO folder. I've never had any problems with other modes except this one. Flyable AI classes needs to be fully installed. Problem solved.   ]cheers[

20% is a missing class file.
...check this idea: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,43854.msg680338.html#msg680338

...or is it that the mere presence of the class-files of Jetwar crashes your game? What is your game?

"Does not work for you!" Have you tried to install only one plane of Jetwar. Why think BIG ?
Or perhaps simply none.
Small steps, just drop the darn thing in the mod file and check if the Boeing mod now works.
Just be sure Jetwar is not overpackaged:  #SAS / mod's name / 3do  ...rule.

My game is 4.12.2m Modact 5.3 NO JETWAR installed now. when it was installed once and I got CTD (forgot %)
so I have to say that's my nightmare.... since I want to fly KC-97 soooo bad lol

20%CTD .... but what classfile is missing Hmmmm !!!!!!!!!!!! UPDATE "SAS Common Utils" and "SAS Engine Mod" made their job
They do fly!!  but the cockpit LOL i can see only instrument panel  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D any solution? I've tried alternative cockpit too and got the blue screen...

P.S and HOW to Use BOOM/DROGUE??? ;) and if I drop Common utils and engine mod classfiles into C-97 Pack folder it's okay or dangerous?

1- common utilities is/are common utilities; keep the files in that mod where they are; why merge ?
2- same goes for engine -mod; keep them were they are; you need to EVOLVE engine mod to suit future needs; why merge files with Boeing?
So NOT OK.

Missing parts with pit? Wow, that's new. Possibly msh/mat/tga dependancy on some other mod ( jetwar tu-4; perhaps...).

3- Jetwar; just drop it in where it should be; forget about your past experience and do it; for god sakes don't install it:  use the pack as a mod.  :P  Why do you keep guessing (=  I forgot what % was... )? What the hell: DO IT. Presence is not install. Then if that fails, you will know you have a class file incompatibily somewhere,   but my guess is that you don't.  > ...what about the Tu-4 classes, I now think.

4- controls: each engine mod version gives you new CONTROLS commands to program in Controls; later engine mod have more evolve and revised "refueling commands", then older. But here, altitude is critical. Beams probably deploys automatically at the proper altitude, as I recall. I do have deployment at 1000+ meters.

Any link to the Later Engine mod? and you told Use Jetwar as a PACK? so you mean download core Jetwar 1956 and drag/drop into #SAS folder?

Ok Understood about Common utils and Engine mod
will reinstall that but the PIT now is the only problem I have...
Tu-4 !? NO don't say I must delete Tu-4 please  ;D

At this stage if you have an engine mod running, dont upgrade yet. Keep that for much later, if/when needed.
Yes to placing in mods the PACK jetwar 'as a pit solution'; but perhaps another plane/mod is also involved; trying JTW first, is priority .
"Don't overpackage Jetwar" warning, again: path to 3do / hereby the positioning of all files is critical. i.e.: no excess container file, please.

will reinstall that but the PIT now is the only problem I have...
Tu-4 !? NO don't say I must delete Tu-4 please  ;D

BUT HERE IS YOUR PROBLEM : Tu-4 is included in Jetwar so yes there is a conflict in having two sets of Tu-4 files, two mods, past and present versions of the same. "-" nullify existing Tu-4 + arms, to keep files in reserve; check out line entry for Tu-4 in air.ini, then in
Jetwar and compare them; "//" nullify old entry and replace it, or it is the same and u can keep it; but I recommend to replace it anyway.
This is true only if JETWAR is present; otherwise nullifying Tu-4 files W/O also nullifying Air,ini line will cause 60% crash.

PS: By then, any plane needed for missing pit parts might still be an issue to resolve, or not. This is a step by step process.
update:  Do step one. You did not. Sorry you don't follow the logic in this. You are stuck.

Tested in my 4.12.2 with SAS ModAct 5.30 using all suggested dependencies for Jet War by 4S_Vega and western0221 up to date.
Does it suggest that JETWAR is mandatory for this mod or am I wrong ?

Hello sosezi, unfortunately for you this mod is based around Jetwar and the latest version then of SAS Engine Mod because in this update it was the intention to be able to refuel most if not all aircraft currently in game that would have come into contact with the two types of tanker represented boom and drogue. ;)

For engine mod the latest is still the one to go for do not try to find a older version, whatever you have in your game bring it up to the very latest that western posted:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,52489.0.html

The earlier version of the C-97 pack I no longer have and that could only refuel the F-84/6, I forget which, because it was based on the earlier KB-29 refueler.

The best way to sort out CTD issues is to post a log as it can provide valuable information as to what is giving issues in your particular game version:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,13457.msg141587.html#msg141587

This is mandatory if you want help otherwise we have to try and guess, even with a log though sometimes we cannot always figure it out because of the variations there are in each individual game, however, we always start there.

If you think it is frustrating trying to get things to work imagine how it is for us trying to fire fight these issues especially when there can be language difficulties so a log first please and we take it from there.

This pack was extensively tested in BAT, if you can install all that then everything is already done for you, just a thought.

Do not loose heart.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Thanks Pete :)
Of Course I'll Back up everything and will do try again ;)

Life is War lol not a Jetwar but still  :D

Finally got 3 of them into the sky ;) it's the NON JET boosted (Transports and Airliner)
don't you guys know which classfiles tankers are lacking? I mean Common Utils and and especially Engine mod folder is big so there's probably only few files that fits those KC-97's :)

also Pit problem is resolved (not that perfect as I wanted but still okay) Using my little knowledge of Hier files I've spent approx 2 hours and got NORMAL looking pit (B24 pit though but it's better than nothing)
:)

Cheers!

well,  I Got them all into the Sky! HUH! Finally I've spent 4 hours  reading Java classes in the Engine mod and found two classfiles named 9B73E5141796B710 and A54FC19AE9C73D9E those two were REFUELLING BOOM/DROGUE files ... and my tankers are flying now :)

that's what I got  :) :) :) 1st pic in the pit with my buddy

ALL 5 Planes are Okay (those 2 files which I've dropped into the pack made their job well)

MY LAST QUESTION of the topic is... How to attach the fighter to the tanker? I mean which type of the Jets fits those KC-97's in the game and which patch needed for air to air refueling fun

Cheers! :)

Hi.

I test C-97 variants in B.A.T. v3.8.3 and find a shadow blinking bug.
Are current release version in this topic and B.A.T. v3.8.3 version the same ?

A shadow blinking bug is caused by the shadow mesh has multi materials. Needed materials merging into the one before exporting.
The nearest LOD0 model's shadow mesh-es are OK and a bit hard to find the bug.
Perhaps LOD1 model of each engines' cowling parts have it. When the camera goes far 100 meters with C-97s staying / taxing on the ground, shadows of engines' cowlings become blinking.

Hello guys, I built the fuselage for this and a few added parts, the rest is from the original franken and that was based on the B-29, my parts should only have the single material for the shadows as far as I can remember. ;)

As much as possible I tried to build my parts to conform to the original B-29 with the series of lods following that as closely as I was able, other than that I used what was already there and in a mod such as this there are a multitude of parts from other sources that only Alex (Bison_M) who put it together in the first place could fully describe what he used.

Much of his work was done in the hier to assemble his original creation, I tried to improve the look a little bit so it better resembled the actual aircraft but as you all should know my 3d knowledge is basic.

As for tanking, the java should allow anything available to use both types sosezi, Phillipo (Vega), did that work to allow various types to use the pack, the original could only use a F-84 I think.

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hi Pete, my KC 97's still don't want to Refuel anyone :-X only KB 29P doing it's job (but as for flying both KB and KC are okay)

tried with A4 Skyhawk and F84 but they just don't connect when I push Connect button....  ;D That Tanker is fun to fly though :)

Hello sosezi, the java fillipo did was I think linked into the Jet and engine mod packages at the time and so I would have thought still relevant, however, I have not used these for such a long time now that I am unsure quite what works or not. :-[

I never use the tankers myself proffering the cargo and passenger versions so it is a function I never really got into, maybe go through the various readme files and just make sure you have it all set up as best as can be, there were many changes over a long period of time on this package.

Best bet is use BAT if you can as that is brought up to a certain standard so the tankers are more likely to fully function there better than in a stand alone install. ;)

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

There are various new cockpits around that others have made for the mod, you have to go looking for them though. ;)

Asura and Bison_M come to mind as having done things for this and other mods but they have their own threads that you
have to search for, not necessarily here, they will advise on what is possible with what they have made. 8)

Take care and be safe.
