History and background by Lars

Bay of Wasps is a 12-mission campaign for the BAT modpack

Date August to October 1943

Base Brest

This is a short campaign where the II Group of ZG1 flying Bf-110G2s was sent to help the units already fighting the air war over the Bay of Biscay. There was a large variety of aircraft types involved so it should not get boring!

You are to back up the Ju88C-6s of V/KG40 and the Fw190A4s of III/JG2 and 10/ZG1. These units have been pursuing the Allied units that cross the Bay of Biscay, hounding the U-boats as they arrive or leave, or just on their way to other theatres.

Your combat area will be between 38 degrees south and 51 degrees north. Try to keep low to avoid the enemy radar in the Scilly Islands. The RAF have several fighter squadrons in that area so it is advised to stay at least 50km away. Your main targets are the enemy anti-submarine and bomber aircraft operating in the area.

You will generally operate in fours, eights, or sometimes more. That way if you get into trouble the others can call for the Do24 rescue planes operating out of Brest harbour.

Installation
This campaign was written and tested using the SAS BAT Mod Pack, available here at the SAS website:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?board=264.0

It may work on other modded systems but the campaign uses Command and Control objects and Triggers, so many mission features would be lost or unworkable without these features.

To install:

•   Extract the Wasps.zip file to a temporary directory.
•   Copy the decompressed Missions folder to your IL-2 1946 root folder.
•   In the New Pilot Career page, choose Luftwaffe in the Air Force selection drop-down.
•   Choose Bay of Wasps in the Career drop-down.
•   We recommend turning off No Instant Success for this campaign.
•   The campaign is designed to be compatible with any rank selection.

Credits
Many thanks to the BAT team for developing, maintaining, and improving the BAT Modpack. As in all of our campaigns, we make liberal use of Kurfurst’s mission templates, available at the Mission 4 Today site.

We all know how valuable skins are to campaign building and enjoyment. This campaign uses skins from the BAT install and we do not know the author(s). If you spot a skin here that did not receive proper credit please let us know and we will rectify the oversight.

Thank you for creating this to everyone involved. The Zerstorer has not received that much attention campaign wise in the past...looking forward to flying! :)

Wow, absolutely rare stuff.
2011 I did a skin for the 6.ZG1 S9+LP Brockenhexe Lorient 1943.
Brings back memories from my early Days.

Thanks to all involved

Thanks for the encouragement guys. We are looking into making another short campaign like this in the Ju88C6. However, that model does not tend to obey orders. e.g. if you order an attack the wingmen more often than not ignore you.

Don't worry we are very used by this wingmen behavior  that will happily let you being chopped into pieces as they keep themselves busy circling around or chasing some far far away enemy

After a spell in hospital and now recovering at home, Nichtmere aka Douglas Rangel, has uploaded mission 1 of this campaign to Youtube.

Another nice choice guys.
Wondering about the Gelbe Fuselage Band though.
Was this an actual scheme during Biscay deployment ?
Looking for an expert ( Knoch ? ) to chime in.

Here is something from the correct place and time ( or near to it ).
Note the lack of fuselage band - normally indicative of an ETO posting.

We had to run with the skins we have which are not always perfect. Anyway glad you like the theme.

Oddly some sources list the unit flying Ju88C6s but I took the details from a new article in the reputable Iron Cross magazine. Possibly the skin creator was not sure if they used a yellow or white fuselage band.
