Hi everyone, its been a while but thought in my Typhoon obsession that tomorrow *shortly will be today* marks 80 years since a Hawker Typhoon, R8895 of 3sqn, had its Sabre engine over rev and quit following take off from RAF Bradwell Bay, forcing the pilot, Flt Sgt Ron Pottinger, to ditch into the Blackwater river, at night. He survived but his aircraft remained until 1971 when it was recovered, albeit for the sake of clearing the river for fishing trawlers whom were getting snagged on her carcass. Despite the completeness, most of it, par the engine and some small sections, were blown up after finding all four 20mm cannon boxes full in the wings and Hispano cannons which could still operate. If only they knew what they had beforehand.... Anyway enough gab
