CTD due to faulty module: jvm.dll
« on: October 25, 2023, 09:43:29 AM »

Hello all, this would be my first time posting on this website. Please feel free to ask me more info that I may have neglected to include.

This game is a game that I would be addicted to but sadly is crashing quite often. Every time I install Il-2 1946 from steam I get to fly around 2-3 whole missions with no problems. Just earlier today I installed it again and flew 3 missions. Flew the 4th one and got reminded why I don't have much hours on it. The 4th mission started normally: engine start, takeoff, follow squad lead. But sadly it ends there. The game then periodically freezes, basically turning into a powerpoint presentation. It progressively deteriorates to a crash in around 12 seconds (from the first freeze to ctd).

Every year I get the urge to play this game hoping that by some miracle the problem goes away but no amount of waiting has fixed it.

Here is the log I got from event viewer right after the crash:

Faulting application name: il2fb.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x44fd7bbb

which version of the game are you using is the stock version directly from steam (4.13.4)or if you added any mods ? It would help to know a bit more on your system capabilities (CPU. GPU, RAM). As it stands it could be that your system resources are insufficient. Finally did you had a look at the conf.ini  https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=9756.0 to use settings adequate to your system. Finally please check here how to properly report on errors and problems

Apologies for the late response!

The game version is 4.13.4m as per the loading screen. My current setup is the following:

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3227U CPU (1.90GHz)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 625M
OS: Windows 10
4gb RAM

The only mods I've added to this game are the AI mod from: https://www.moddb.com/games/il-2-sturmovik-1946/addons/a-universal-addition-for-any-mods-realistic-piloting-for-ai-bots
Though the CTD was still present during the times that I played the game as is, without mods.

If CTD was happening since the begin better to focus on properly setup the stock game first. So please de-activate any mod you may have installed that in any case won't work if you haven't installed a MOD activator as well.
Assuming that your hardware is ok with no memory leaks, if game start and missions launch crashing after a while this is most likely due to a configuration problem.  To understand how to configure your game please have a look here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,9756.0.html

Considering that your system is not the most powerful I would recommend to start with a conservative setting

Furthermore in order to mod your game  have a look here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,4.0.html

Modactivator for 14.3.4 here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,55051.0.html

"The addon was tested on version 4.09 of the game."
It's very, very likely that this mod is the root cause of the issue.

Though the CTD was still present during the times that I played the game as is, without mods.
If the mod was installed before, you might not have gotten rid of it completely.
Either way, a full unmodded reinstall from Steam seems to be in order.
