Horror Punch Line
« on: January 10, 2023, 05:36:06 PM »

Just thought I would share...

I had a mission I was making with high level of detail, lots of objects and all.  It is Palm Sunday, if you know that.

The mission had been done before by others, but I like high detail in accuracy in my missions.

Anyway, spent several weekends building it up, was trying not to make a "save mission soup" like I did for another, so I only saved 2 versions in my progress.

I like to make a long full mission version, with full flight times, and then a quicker "net" version to play it quickly where I spawn into where the action starts.

Anyway, when I made the "cutdown"...

I accidentally saved it over the original full mission build!

And I feel gutted enough if I lose just 15 minutes of work! As someone possessing of empathy, I'm heartsick for you.

Maybe you should install some copy software that regularly copies certain files or folders to other locations, so you have at least 1 copy or even a history of files.
Just to have a copy every 10 or 60 min. or whatever you want.

In the FMB there is an option to open the last saved mission. Didn't you at least cache here and there?

Good luck with your search.

God bless Windows' file history.
Only works when you use it, of course.
But as you know: No Backup, no mercy.

God bless Windows' file history.

One problem, you need a second drive (-letter) to make use of this.
It does not work with 1 drive (as far as i know).

Thank you everyone...

Yes I usually save a new copy every time I make some progress, though I was trying to avoid building up about 100 files saving my progress, all going in different directions with different experiments or redos of the same mission.

I usually get lost in this endless "mission soup" trying different things like coordinating 75 aircraft together, then having to restructure everything later.

I told myself, I'm just going to have 1 mission save for this...

Never doing that again.

Fortunately this is the only time I've had a fail this big.

All that clicking... ]confused2[

Wing Walker,

I have experienced the similar situation before. It sucks big time.  However, I like the goals you have when working on two versions of missions.  I have an idea for you;

First, focus on the normal missions and build it with all details completely.  It become a foundation for another missions based on this one.  When you complete it, make a copy of it and rename it with a different name.  Then use that cloned mission to convert it into a 'quick' mission version where you jump into the actions more quickly.

That way you won't make the same mistakes again.
