I'm trying to skinning in Gimp
« on: April 02, 2022, 11:46:43 AM »

Hello,to all!
I'm trying to skinning in Gimp. I tried to follow the tutorials on Youtube, but ... maybe I find it harder to understand, but I couldn't get over the paint side. The ones I watched have too many parallel explanations. I would like someone to explain to me from A to Z how to proceed. A void template as I complete it to the end. Is there such a guide? Thanks in advance for a solution.

Stay safe all!All the best!

Thank you,Glibble!
I partially succeeded, it's not good yet, but at least I understood. But being my first creation, I'm happy!I have already seen the three tutorials. But, I appreciate the help. Thank you very much!

You're welcome.

When I started doing skins I first used Paint.net. It's easier to learn.
I find GIMP not so user friendly sometimes. It also has odd user interface that took me a while to get used to.

I only switched to GIMP because it has more advanced functions than Paint.net.

Anyway, I'm glad you've made your first skin.

Have fun!

After I finished the skin and loaded it, I saw that there were unpainted parts left, I went back to Gimp to correct it and in the end I ruined it. I'll try again.

All the best!

If you can get an old version of Paint Shop Pro, for instance when it was still JASC Paint Shop Pro 7, you'll find all the functions much much easier to use than Gimp.

First skinning attempt. I know it looks like it was made by a caveman, but it's the first skin made completely. I have a lot to learn about this specialty.  ;D

A happy wolf salute all of you!

Ihave a very small progress in skinning ,but  there are many things I still don't understand.

I don`t know where I find in template the bracing struts of the tailplane? I painted ina wrong colour. The flaps and ailerones looks unpainted, but I painted  the entire lower part of the wing.

Any tips will be helpfull. Thank you!

this small finder is useful for finding parts that elude skinners. Make a separate layer in your skinning template, add this image and then make a skin. The skin will look awful of course, but the numbers and colors on the finder image should be able to help you locate where the parts are located on your template.

Struts are notoriously difficult to locate btw, don't feel bad if you can't find them, even with the finder image.

I'd pay more attention to adding dirt, oil, weathering, scratches layers to a template to give the skin and aircraft a used look, like it has been in combat and not factory-fresh..

Adobe is capitalistic crap, Gimp is the future, Millions of Users, just count downloads,
the rest is uninteressting. easy to use GUI, it's sooo cute, fluffy, let's me wake up early morning and thank Gimp
for being there. The forest mushrooms are not inducing narcotic thoughts, as forests chill me down.

Gimp is worth a Banana

 :banana_dancing_on_computer:

Than I wake up and see which proggie let's me do my job, helps me to pay my rent, stops me from ending up
in forests full of mushrooms.
Not Gimp, but PS. What a nightmare, a world without PS and me praising Gimp, good god, signs of sure madness.
