BAT Skins

Hi
    Is there a way of making all skins compatible with B.A.T ?
the only skins that seem to be recognized are the 1 Mb size
I have resized some downloaded  skins to 1024x124 and reduced the colours to 8 bit
But the skins are still  not recognized if they are not 1Mb in size.
Any help welcome
