No Town class as yet - just the Counties. It would be nice to see HMS Belfast.

I can't wait for the HMS Hermes. I love those quirky early carriers- she looks as if she was welded together in one afternoon at Devonport from various spare parts that were lying around...

I have no plans to work on HMS Hood at present, mainly since I cant think of any use for her in the context of a flight sim.
HMS Repulse would be a much more useful battlecruiser to have, for obvious reasons.
The existing model of Fiji is a reasonable stand in for Town Class cruisers, though a Belfast model would be nice.

Really there are so many deserving cases out there.
I am rather attracted by oddities, like the Omaha Light Cruiser of the USN.
Although obsolete ten of them served in WWII

Agreed. When you think of the work HMS Renown did off Norway and as part of Force H, that class would be ideal. In fact, I would argue that class would virtually complete the RN capital ships as far as Il2 is concerned.

I completely agree, the Omaha Class would be a great and appropriate addition, with their extensive combat honors throughout WWII. USS Raleigh was badly damaged at Pearl Harbour and others saw action in the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, invasion of Southern France, and extensive air attacks in Dutch East Indies campaigns and Indian Ocean (USS Marblehead); also USS Milwaukee was loaned to the Soviet Navy.

Reasonable mini guide here

I am fully with you concerning the Hood, although given that we have US battlewagons like the Tennessee or even the Arizona, they also serve no real purpose in a flightsim except as target for a Pearl Harbor scenario;
the surviving pre war US BBs were too slow for escorting the US carrier task forces and so were relegated to the support role in amphib landings mostly, and thats about it;
the Omaha class CLs are also a case of nice to have but irrelevant in the context of a flightsim;

what would be more useful for the US side would be the North Carolina / South Dakota BBs or the Atlanta class CLs or Baltimore CAs;
all those served as Carrier escorts and could be usefully included in task force set ups...

for the RN, how about a Dido class CL?

Mr asheshouse,
How do you feel about equipping your future "Hermes" model with navigation lights and flight deck lighting?

I have no plans to add lighting at present. I am also not sure what if any flight deck lighting the carrier had. If you have any authentic info please post it.

All the basic model is complete. Only thing remaining is to sort out the flight deck functionality.
This is complicated by the hump at the rear of the flight deck which may clash with the spawning area of the aircraft.
The hump was originally to house the anchors for longitudinal arrestor cables, a redundant feature when it was decided to opt for transverse wires instead.
The very low after deck was a feature designed to facilitate launching of seaplanes, with access to the main hanger by a large roller shutter door.
The only aircraft embarked during WWII were Swordfish Mk1 of 814 Naval Air Squadron.
