Hurraaa!!!
Outstanding, Ashehouses! :o
The british ironworks are WIP!
A big thank you.

Poiana

My next target ! 8)

Very good choice, asheshouse, type of ships very absent in our game, but their names say a lot 8), I will remind only four: Achilles, Ajax, Sydney, Perth, it would be great to see them all in the game.
Best Regards,
Piotrek

Yeeeees asheshouse! I love Regia Marina and USS ships, but since i visited the Belfast i started to know better and like the Royal Navy too. Could you make the J and V&W Class DDs? In WoWs the J class is represented with the Jervis, whereas the V&W class shares several characteristics (for some reason) between several ships: from Valkirye to Acasta.
Thank you so much in advance for these new ships! :)

I believe there are J class destroyers already.
-
The J Class and Tribal Class destroyers were my first ever models for IL-2. They’ve been around for a while now.
Created in 2010. The V Class is on my wish list, to provide escorts for Hermes.

;D Yes yes, dear Asheshouse, your magnificent British J-class destroyers have been the cornerstone of many of my Mediterranean adventures for ten years! ;)
-
HMS Vanoc / Verity / Vivien / Worcester are in gio's pack --- https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,25452.0.html
With additional texture work + armaments arrangement, I can add Vampire.
btw: Electra is also in another gio's pack --- https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,25451.0.html

Looking good, asheshouse...do you ever sleep?
-
Yep you're right asheshouse and western...totally didn't see them in the FMB list my bad :-[
The J Class has your trademark asheshouse! Is a beauty!
Btw i also found the W&V class DDs in the process but something looks "strange" in them. I believe there are some proportion issues (this doesn't mean i don't appreciate the work of gio, to be clear)
They look higher in height and shorter i lenght in-game i believe. I could be wrong so i posted some photos of them. The Silent Hunter III version with that camo is beautiful 8)

:D Slurp! Two appetizing jewels!

Greaaaat models! Looking forward to integrating them into the game...our flightsim definitely needs more ships! 😁

Looking close to a release, asheshouse - can't wait...
-
Looks can be deceptive :-[
-
Pardon Asheshouses... which kind of ship is the one in the middle?
it seems like a carrier... maybe I don't recognize it... alzheimer is grabbing on me... ;D
-
HMS Hermes :)
-
... yep, that's the Hermes, sunk by the Japanese at Trincomalee harbour ... ;)

-
HMS Hermes :)
Ahh...okkk, but HMS Hermes has not been released yet in WAW, or I'm wrong?
Mr. Asheshouses likes to hide projects between the lines... ;)
And it's not the first time...
-
The Hermes in BAT is the modern Falklands era carrier. The Hermes I am working on is the earliest one, commissioned in 1924. Another import from WoWS.
(https://i.postimg.cc/jS6WLyFt/Capture.png) (https://postimg.cc/0zQ54KvB)
-
Thank you, a good addition to the early war Royal Navy carrier list.
Enjoyed taking off from the Eagle, the Furious and the Ark Royal - am looking forward to this one.
Thank you again,
-
:) No dear Poiana, the HMS Hermes never appeared on the seas of Il2 .. you get confused with another wonder, produced by Ashes, the British aircraft carrier HMS Eagle active in the Mediterranean until August 1942, when it collected four German torpedoes, sinking in a few minutes. Indeed the profiles of the two ships are apparently similar ... ;)
-
I love these early carriers, before the iconic and ideal design was determined later on. The cruiser bow, and boy is that one tall island! I know one thing, I wouldn't like to be in that fighting top in a blow...
-
OK thank you Stanislao and Asheshouse, all is clear now...
Beautiful, not the same type of Eagle but very similar...
Yes, she made cruise in Pacific in WWII and sunked under japanese bomber attack.
Another great job Asheshouse! ;)
-
Indeed the profiles of the two ships are apparently similar ... ;)

'cept for the number of funnels! :) Anyway i agree with you. Maybe it's due to their '20 early carrier flavor or maybe to their strange "pointed" deck, i too find them very similar. If i were a modder i'd model Dorsetshire and Cornwall but since i'm moving my first steps in 3D i'm afraid it'll take a loong time! ::)

impressive !

Whow!

The WoWS Vampire model oddly featured twin 13mm Breda (Italian) guns on the bridge wings. Seems wrong, so I am considering replacing them with twin .303 Lewis guns.
The Lewis guns are borrowed from a War Thunder Vosper MTB model.
Does anyone know better what would be correct?
Before - with Breda guns

After - with Lewis guns
(https://i.postimg.cc/sxw7m1PX/Image04.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/LggJ69bK)
-
Hi asheshouse,
according to Campbell ('Naval Weapons of WW2') - Lewis 303.
Janes just gives 'some smaller' in the weapons list - very helpful... :(
-
Well, I can find no reference to Breda guns being used. Seems unlikely.
-
Wikipedia say´s 0,5 ZolL
-
... I found this:
4x7.7mm Lewis guns
Source:
https://ww2db.com/ship_spec.php?ship_id=502
... confirmed here:
https://www.navy.gov.au/hmas-vampire-i
-
Not always totally reliable, but Wiki says the same
Note - for some reason the link won't go straight to the correct page - just re-click on the HMAS Vampire link at the top.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMAS_Vampire_(D68)
-
Good links. Thanks. Think I have it sorted now. The 4x7.7mm is consistent with 2 x twin Lewis on the bridge wings and 12pdr will be a 3in HA gun.
So another fix, and now I am ready to start enabling the guns :) It really would not have done to have all that Regia Marina gear on an RN warship.

wow, shes a real beauty!
-
Another fine ship!
-
Bravo Ashe! At last a representative for the "Counties" - these ships of course had a significant historical role in all theatres including the Indian Ocean, South Pacific, Middle East, Atlantic and Arctic actions. Well overdue a position of honour in Il2.
Many thanks in advance.

Now that's what I call a battleship! Coming soon to a slipway near us?
-
:D Unequivocally the British battleship Horace Nelson !!
:-[ But maybe it's Rodney ..... or maybe both ... ;) 8)
-
It could be both - if a brilliant skinner could do some magic before he goes on his holidays. Do you know anyone like that, stanislao? :)
-
Absolut Fantastic!!!
-
That! Is! AWESOME!!!
-
The model is HMS Nelson. Needs a few alterations to represent HMS Rodney, like removing the large external stairs from the rear of the bridge structure and a few other things.
This is Rodney

I have great sentiment for this ship. In my childhood I built his cardboard model in 1/300 scale. It required a lot of work and I was very proud of it
I am looking forward to the final result of the work asheshouse.

... a very unique battleship construction, with main armament of nine 16-inch (406 mm) guns all carried forward of the bridge ...! o_O

Not entirely unique. The French built some warships with similar layouts. Dunkerque Class and Richelieu Class. They were a response to the Washington Treaty restrictions which limited all up tonnage. Grouping the main turrets together saved a lot of weight.
Dunkerque

Ashe,
Is this the HMS Nelson that you were working on back in 2014:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,18947.0.html,
or is it a new model. Just curious.
]cheers[
-
Its a different model, sourced from WoWS.
-
What a hideously gorgeous lad!
-
LODs completed. Progressing setup of the guns.
Minor cockup merging objects together rectified.
The merging was necessary due to IL-2 limits on number of objects in a model.
This 1943 version of HMS Nelson will have a total of 60 guns, of which 51 are AA guns.
Dozens of 20mm oerlikons.
It was with this fit out that she supported the landing in North Africa, Sicilly, Salerno and Normandy.

Excellent work asheshouse, looking forward to trying her out. 8)
Take care and be safe.
Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D
-
Another Masterpiece!!!
-
... very impressive ship ...! 8)
-
HMS Hermes just couldnt be left half finished. Added a bit more AA defence to the basic WoWS model so that she is represented as she appeared in 1942.
The additions comprised a Quad 40mm PomPom forward, Quad Vickers Gun aft and 6 20mm Oerlikons.

Bravo! ]thumright[ I can't wait to see her in the game.
-
The first ship that you can admire up close.
-
Looking forward to taking off from that old deck in a Stringbag.
Bravo indeed, and a thousand thanks.
-
Asheshouse you are doing an amzing work! ]wav[
Could you, in the future, make also the mighty HMS Hood?
I think it's one of the most famous battlecruisers of WW2 and a welcome addition to the Royal Navy family.
There is a model in WoWs if you want to use it. ;)

The Hood would be the pinnacle i think - not much point adding any more ships after her!! Joking of course. Just thought is HMS Belfast in the game? On me tablet so cant remember!! lol
-

No Town class as yet - just the Counties. It would be nice to see HMS Belfast.
I can't wait for the HMS Hermes. I love those quirky early carriers- she looks as if she was welded together in one afternoon at Devonport from various spare parts that were lying around...
-
I have no plans to work on HMS Hood at present, mainly since I cant think of any use for her in the context of a flight sim.
HMS Repulse would be a much more useful battlecruiser to have, for obvious reasons.
The existing model of Fiji is a reasonable stand in for Town Class cruisers, though a Belfast model would be nice.
Really there are so many deserving cases out there.
I am rather attracted by oddities, like the Omaha Light Cruiser of the USN.
Although obsolete ten of them served in WWII
(https://i.postimg.cc/t70QWtpY/Capture.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
-
Agreed. When you think of the work HMS Renown did off Norway and as part of Force H, that class would be ideal. In fact, I would argue that class would virtually complete the RN capital ships as far as Il2 is concerned.
-
I would argue that class would virtually complete the RN capital ships
cough! Did someone mention the Revenge Class BBs?

True! But you do realise that you are talking yourself into more work....good job it is a labour of love...

I completely agree, the Omaha Class would be a great and appropriate addition, with their extensive combat honors throughout WWII. USS Raleigh was badly damaged at Pearl Harbour and others saw action in the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, invasion of Southern France, and extensive air attacks in Dutch East Indies campaigns and Indian Ocean (USS Marblehead); also USS Milwaukee was loaned to the Soviet Navy.
Reasonable mini guide here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wq_J2tWaxk
-
I am fully with you concerning the Hood, although given that we have US battlewagons like the Tennessee or even the Arizona, they also serve no real purpose in a flightsim except as target for a Pearl Harbor scenario;
the surviving pre war US BBs were too slow for escorting the US carrier task forces and so were relegated to the support role in amphib landings mostly, and thats about it;
the Omaha class CLs are also a case of nice to have but irrelevant in the context of a flightsim;
what would be more useful for the US side would be the North Carolina / South Dakota BBs or the Atlanta class CLs or Baltimore CAs;
all those served as Carrier escorts and could be usefully included in task force set ups...
for the RN, how about a Dido class CL?
-
Mr asheshouse,
How do you feel about equipping your future "Hermes" model with navigation lights and flight deck lighting?
-
I have no plans to add lighting at present. I am also not sure what if any flight deck lighting the carrier had. If you have any authentic info please post it.
-
All the basic model is complete. Only thing remaining is to sort out the flight deck functionality.
This is complicated by the hump at the rear of the flight deck which may clash with the spawning area of the aircraft.
The hump was originally to house the anchors for longitudinal arrestor cables, a redundant feature when it was decided to opt for transverse wires instead.
The very low after deck was a feature designed to facilitate launching of seaplanes, with access to the main hanger by a large roller shutter door.
The only aircraft embarked during WWII were Swordfish Mk1 of 814 Naval Air Squadron.

-
Problem solved. Turned out to be very simple, but taken me a week of messing around to resolve.
Need to add some shadow meshes to the side of the bridge structure to catch the aircraft shadows as they pass by, then add some shadows to the LOD1 meshes, then its done.
Maybe complete this weekend if all is well.

It's HMS Nelson, the catapult is mounted on "C" turret.

Wrong sister.

Wrong sister.
So, are we going to see the Rodney show up at some point? ;D
-
A small project. The Royal Navy N48 Minesweeper, former Medway Queen Paddle Steamer. Model sourced from WoWS.
Main AA armament is a 3in 12pdr on the bow. I have added a couple of twin Lewis machine guns mounted over the paddles to provide some protection to the stern.
(https://i.postimg.cc/XJsSr0qL/Capture.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/5YQkrTwQ)
-
Cool. I actually went aboard her in the 1960s. She was a static exhibit then, shortly before she became a nightclub, of all things. A Dunkirk 'little ship' too.
-
Yes, and now in preservation at Gillingham in Kent. I presume that when she carried out her seven trips to Dunkirk she did so in her N48 guise?

Yes:

-
I would like if possible to verify the correct location of the Lewis guns. Current location is just a guess.
(https://i.postimg.cc/zGz9MYY8/Capture.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
-
The references that I've found so far, list her armament as 1 x 12 pounder gun and
2 x machine guns. No location on the mg's, but placing them on the port and starboard
beam would make sense.
According to one source, on their first trip to Dunkirk the Medway's machine gunners
shot down one of the Bf-109's that had attacked them.
-
... what a lovely strange minesweeper ...! 8)
-
We already have HMS Ryde in the game.
This one will be welcome to keep him company! ;) :)

;D Among all the beauties you have given us in this last year this little gem is perhaps the pinnacle of your achievements! We will long remember this leap year for all the trouble it caused us .. but also for the relief and the beauty of the ships you sent us! Thank you so much! :D
-
I guess that the Queen Elizabeth Class BBs rank amongst my favourites. This mainly due to the range of active service that many of the class provided.
This model is of HMS Valiant. All of the class were progressively upgraded during the 20's and 30's with Warspite, Queen Elizabeth and Valiant each having major rebuilds completed just before WWII. Queen Elizabeth and Valiant were the most modernised of the class , with all the secondary guns being replaced with 5.25in Dual Purpose guns.
The two were very similar Valiant being distinguished by having had the sternwalk removed and lacking the tripod legs on the aft mast. Model is adapted from the WoWS Queen Elizabeth.
I may not include the Walrus, since it would likely be in the hanger, not stored on the catapult. Not decided yet.

Mine too. It would be nice to have other ships in the class to complement the Warspite.
-
HMS Malaya possibly, with secondary guns similar to Warspite but old style open bridge structure and larger funnel.

The mighty Hood!!! 😳👍👍👍
No, but it is a battlecruiser.
-
Renown and Repulse? 8)
-
Then it must be the Repulse, lying besides the Prince of Wales...
This will be a great addition anyways :)
Thank you for your continued work on expanding the battle fleets of all sides.. :)
-
:) :D ;D 8) I am very happy that you have some free time again for these absolute marine jewels! After all the wonders you had accustomed us to, a deafening emptiness remained! Good work Ashes and I am always at your disposal ;)
-
Renown-class battlecruiser?
-
8) Definitely the heavy cruiser Repulse ! ;)
-
Wow! HMS HOOD! Happy days
-
Not Hood. Model is of HMS Repulse, extracted from WoWS.
-
I remember Nana talking about the Renown when the then Prince of Wales visited NZ in the 1920s.
-
All LOD0 parts imported and pivots and hooks applied. Next step is to enable all the guns and correct any alignment errors.
No LODs, shadows or collision boxes done yet. Repulse and Renown were very elegant ships, though perhaps a little fragile. Renown had a major reconstruction 1936-39, so was very different in appearance to Repulse at the start of WWII, particularly in terms of AA armament.

Not Hood! Gutted :-(
Thanks! Always great to be told that you are working on the wrong project. ;)
-
I know no wrong project by ashes docks and I track every ship :)
-
:) Great choice Asheshouse ! How nice to see you creative again! I take this opportunity to ask if anyone remembers if there is a mod to double the length of the wake of the ships, it would also be nice to widen the wake of the larger ships by at least 50% ....
-
If you look in the Hooks section in the *.msh files you will find _Centre, _Left, _Right, and _Props.
If you change the matrices for these Hooks (just text edit in the msh file), then you will find the wakes will change.
I have not yet worked out exactly how they inter relate, but there is some complex relationship between the hooks.
-
:) Thank you, I'll try to mess around with the MSH files a bit, I hope to find them ... ;)
-
Last of the meshes completed.

This thread just caught my eye, nice models.
I've always had an interest in the battle of Jutland and the ensuing controversies. Its shocking how quickly some of these huge dreadnoughts were sunk and the many lives that were lost in an instant. I came across this site a while back where you can download the demo of the Battle of Jutland game. I thought this might be of interest to you .

Bought that game. Not used it for a long time. NWS Steam and Iron is better IMO. https://nws-online.proboards.com/board/4/steam-iron-sai
Graphics are old school but playability is great.

Agreed. 'Rule the Waves', which is based on the same combat engine but allows for ship design and fleet building, is also very immersive. There is now a carrier/aircraft version, too. Not played that.

It's early access at the moment. I played 'ultimate general civil war' and that was very good, so this would be worth a try.

Black Swan Class Escort Sloop - A total of 37 were built between 1939 and 45. Model imported from WoWS.
Armament to be enabled and collision boxes still to be created.

Nice, ashe. You already know my opinion - although the big battlewagons are great to see, it is the smaller workhorses that are often more useful in Il2 missions (just like in real life, in fact).
-
I think there is a great need for both. Recreations of large fleet actions never look right without appropriate ship classes to represent the large vessels. This is particularly true of the PTO scenarios. The stock game with a British battleship serving as a generic capital ship in the USN and IJN was pretty poor in this respect.
-
Agreed. Thanks mainly to you, we now have a pretty good balance of both.
Another reason I like the little ships is that I can sneak up on them at night with one of Tobias's radar Catalinas and sink 'em with one torpedo... ;)

HMS Exeter?
-
Looks like an Argonaut...
-
;D Fantastic ! Now Asheshouse has switched to ships made with "Lego"! We will also have to insert the waves in Lego! However, it does not seem like the Exeter to me, and besides, it has already been made, and it is also well done, you will find it on the "Il2 Air Combat" site.
-
Both wrong.
-
:D Well, yes the "Lego" cruiser could be of the Dido class! 8)
-
You win the prize. The Dido Class will be useful with its powerful AA capability.
-
;D BINGO !!!! 8)

(https://i.postimg.cc/SRYjZ0tT/Image01.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
Armament
5x2 5.25in Dual Purpose Guns
2x4 40pdr Pom Pom
4x2 20mm Oerlikon
3x1 20mm Oerlikon
2x3 21in Torpedo Tubes
-
so I was right! the Argonaut belongs to the Dido class of light cruisers and was one of the lucky ones in the class to survive the war....
their main armament differed though within the class, some only having two turrets forward...
nevertheless, extremely nice ships and a great AA asset, even if their main armament turrets were not as good as the comparable USN 5 inch twin turrets as used on their equivalent in the USN, the Atlanta class ships...
looking forward to adding them to the growing ships collection in the game...

;D Great beautiful ship! I found some camouflage liveries for this class on the web but do you think Argonaut or Naiad is better?
-
Scylla is more representative of the class as a whole... But as you can see, she is missing the middle fwd turret as I have written, maybe Ashe could do two different versions in two slots...?
-
The armament.with twin oerlikons, would better suit Argonaut 1943.
-
;D So the HMS Naiad seems to be the most eligible, also because I believe that the HMS Dido has had a simple light gray color throughout his career ....or maybe not, I only found a camouflage used on a plastic model ..
-
The armament on this model is appropriate for 1943. Specifically the twin 20mm Oerlikon guns.
HMS Scylla would require a lot or remodelling. The guns and cranes are quite different.
-
;) Guys, I searched the web for images of the HMS Dido, in camouflage livery, apart from some false attributions I only found photos of this plastic model .. if someone gives me a hand and found something interesting I would be grateful.

HMS Repulse?
-
:) More and more difficult .... !! ;)
-
... I was about to say HMS Dorsetshire, but she sank stern first, so I'll say HMS Cornwall as she sank bow first ... 8)
"The two British cruisers were attacked by a force of 53 Aichi D3A2 Val dive bombers 320 km (200 mi) southwest of Ceylon. In the span of about eight minutes, Dorsetshire was hit by ten 250 lb (110 kg) and 550 lb (250 kg) bombs and several near misses; she sank stern first at about 13:50. One of the bombs detonated an ammunition magazine and contributed to her rapid sinking. Cornwall was hit eight times and sank bow first about ten minutes later."

The problem is that Dido was also the name given to her ship class (around 16 were built), so there are many mistakes with photos, on the net ... :-X
.
-
;D Asheshouse, I can not believe it ...!! Don't tell me it's HOOD! If yes I think it is among the most desired ships in Il2 history! It would be a fantastic gift for Epiphany! ;)
-
:D Thanks Mick! Your bibliographic knowledge has now become proverbial! Anyway you are right, I found at least three different versions of the livery attributed to HMS Dido and at this point let's move on ..

Well well, looks like I've found the right place to post my question...
I'm working on a video on the Taranto night but I noticed that Il2 lacks a large part of that ship that took part in that enterprise. I would like to know from the more experienced where I could find them or should I wait for someone to take them out of the hat? ;D
P.S.
Just for information, specifically I need a large tonnage of Allied and Italian shipping:...😁🤣

So, in summary, right now in the game, if there was a hypothetical battle of Taranto, the Royal Navy takes it hard, it has only two ships in the game, the Illustrious and the Valiant, against five ships of the Regia Marina currently present.. .
So where do I find all this goodness?....🙏🏻💋🤗

HMS Warspite has been with us for a long time now:

I think she is one of Asheshouse's earliest masterpieces ]salut[
Cheers,
Glibble

I guess the lack of ships is part of the problem. Almost no one is involved in the fleet. But how much has been done in a short time asheshouse, only for that he is worth thanking. Hopefully something else will show up. As for the ships, I found Warspite and Pola.
There is nothing more...

9078roman thanks for the amount of work done by Asheshouse 🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️ are beyond question, indeed I will never cease to be indebted to him.
However returning to the topic, I will have to opt for another way and that is to replace the missing ships with the ones we have now in the game.
Many thanks also to Glibble for providing me with the HMS Warspite link, I was completely unaware of the existence of this ship on the site, I apologize for my distraction and I will buy you all a drink if you are in my area.🤗😉
-
I suppose that we can live using ships in the same class to replace the missing ones, however if Roman is willing to add to the fleet he is very welcome :)
-
So, "Browsing"... it seems to me the right term right now 😁🤣... I managed to recover three other Regia Marina ships that I was missing...
and I'm the:
Montecuccoli, Curtatone and Pula...
Sooner or later I'll be able to put them all together MUAHAHAHAHAH 😈😈😈😈
-
As a kid I have been on the Montecuccoli
-
We have representant of Queen Elizabeth , Nelson and King George V battleships from world war two , except Revenge class .
I remember you mention about importing ships from sh5 .
There is a Royal Sovereign battleship .
This will be usefull both for great war and world war two scenarios .
I only suggest .
-
Thanks for the Corvus frugilegus suggestion, but I've already embarked on the project with what I have... 😉🤗
