Horse transport columns for DOF
« on: November 05, 2019, 02:59:54 PM »

I have always felt that the supply columns in DOF fail to reflect the era – there is simply not enough horse-drawn transport. As a result I have created a number of new columns to address this, and I am fairly pleased with the effects – I think that they convey a more historical feel.

This involves changes to chief.ini. The following new columns have been added:

HorseMedArtColumnUK
HorseHeavyArtColumnUK
HorseMedArtColumnDE
HorseHeavyArtColumnDE
HorseTransportColumnUK
HorseTransportColumnFR
HorseTransportColumnRU
HorseTransportColumnDE
GermanCavalryRegt
BritishCavalryRegt
FrenchCavalryRegt
RussianCavalryRegt
GermanCavalryCharge
BritishCavalryCharge
FrenchCavalryCharge
RussianCavalryCharge

Some screenshots:

British Cavalry charge (achieved by placing three 'charge' columns side-by-side)

I have set this up with a folder which can be enabled from BATMODS, which avoids any unwanted changes to the original file. Simply copy the ‘DOF Transport Columns’ folder into BATMODS and enable as required.

You are right, David - the German Army was still primarily horse-drawn in the first part of WW2. I'm glad you like the columns. I am planning a major re-work of all the DOF columns, which tend to be a bit generic IMHO. I have already done a 'refugee' column, using the good variety of vehicle objects available.

Thanks a lot.
A very good addition to all BAT eras except JTW.

On another thought...
Some horse units can be used in JTW as well, in the Korean War scenarios at least.

And there was one particular horse:

Agreed. Unfortunately the horsed units are not in the JTW vehicles list. A pity, the carts and packhorse would be both relevant and useful.
