i would assume you can just assign the switches to commands as usual.

Native IL2 will recognize 4 controllers.

Look at this thread here

if the switch panel comes with its own software you can assign keys to the switch panel functions [ ie G for gear switch ] then the game will recognise you using that switch the same as you pressing G on your keyboard

Saitek switch panel seems to need some special plug-in tools to bridge the hardware and flight-sim software.
It might not work as generic key input.

Official support flight-sim is only 3.
- FSX
- Prepar3D v2.2
- X-Plane10
Some plug-in tools maybe provided only for them.

If you are using Thrustmaster devices, then their TARGET software might help.

I had the Saitek switch panel. with gear and flap level. It is only compatible for FSX and such. It might be a way around it with some software. But it is made for FSX interface

Dont know exactly, but probably you can use this software as a keyboard emulator. It seems to work for DCS, dont know if it works for other sims... give it a try: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2293326
Here is a video of the old version of the software:

Hi Darky, I'm afraid it's a no-go for Il-2, or only with serious limitations. Here it's discussed in some detail (#3 and #23):
