How not to wreck my Bf109 auto prop pitch + engine
« on: February 11, 2016, 02:31:09 AM »

Hey guys,

as the topic name suggest i would like to get some hints from you, how to avoid auto prop pitch (+ sometimes even engine) damage to the MW50 equipped Bf109s (aside from the obvious, avoiding engine overheat for too long).
I couldnt figure out what was the exact thing that caused the damage to the prop system, however on some missions I waited to apply the MW50 while throttle was at a steady position and I maintained a constant direction.

Could you help me pls to clarify for me what not to do (before or) when applying the MW50 on Bf109s to avoid any damage to the props or engine?
Is there a time window for the maximum activation or for the

Would be much appreciated,

Nesh

PS: Something else --> Am I correct to assume that the prop pitch system is locked in automatic setting in the game (using latest DBW)? If i am wrong, then how can you change it to manual?

prop pitch is manual for some planes, automatic for others (historically modelled, i gather)
so, for the most part, if not all, the 109's use automatic prop pitch, as in reality. this cannot be 'switched' to manual.
i don't know the precise mechanics of the MW50 109's, although i vaguely recall that there might  be a maximum time window for it's use.
there are plenty 109 experts about, no doubt one will come and correct anything i've said wrong, soon enough... ;)

as I understand it, not a 109 jockey myself, the MW50 boost has a maximum of 5 minutes use, best engaged at altitude [ no idea how high ] and engaged with the engine at about 2000 - 2500 rpm.

Try those settings see if it helps.

MW50 must be enabled only when throttle is below 50% (Oleg dixit!).

In addition, it must be disabled when methanol-water tank is empty (about ten minutes of use).

Both the above rules, if not respected, cause engine failure.

Thank you for the answer!  :)

How come that it is still possible that there is no engine failure when I apply it at around 100-110%?
Isn't it hardcoded? Or there is a random percentage for the occurance above 50% eninge power?

That working MW50 gauge mod is very tempting, nice work on that and thank you for the hint Greybeard!  ;)
