Getting into Cliffs of Dover @full switch
« on: December 18, 2013, 07:49:19 AM »

Hi mates,

After 9 months of not having launched CloD a single time, I eventually got back to it in order to see whether it's realism could justify the further existance of it on my HDD.
I'd like to fly some online sorties every other day as well, so I had to go the full route through updating my game to TF patch 4.0 already which eventually succeeded after 1 1/2 days of hard work and endless downloads.

Now I'm at the point where I'd like to get my skills set for full realism flights with CloD.
I thought I'd start with the Hurricane as it's a quite forgiving plane, however recommendations are welcome of course. I must admit I'm not that much with german aircraft, so choosing british ones is a matter of preference here.
One thing I'm stuck at currently is that I couldn't find a way to have a cold ground start in CloD QMB yet. All I found was the cross country flight which puts me into a plane at ground, but with running engine and firmly aligned on the runway. Since this is not what I will face online, could anyone point me to a way to have a QMB mission where I can do a proper training with ground start, all switches off at some normal spawn position (hangar, field, whatever)?

Thanks and best regards - Mike

for cold starts you have to tick the 'spawn parked' checkbox in the  'group properties' page. This will leave you parked at the highest numbered parking place that is free on the airfield. Just as in IL2 if you want to change spawn place, 'block' any places with statics to get to the place you want.
Can easily knock up a mission if you want

Hurri is probably a good choice  to start with if you prefer RAF, a 109E4 would be a good start if you went Luft.

might be  useful ?

That'd be really great as I'm an FMB spastic.
I would have thought that such mission exists in QMB already but it doesn't (in CloD. In IL-2 it does).

Yep, thx, I've been to ATAC already and it's indeed the one stop source for useful information about aircraft handling.
I'm wondering why there's no official documentation available about this.
I mean honestly, there are something like 700+ keys available for assignment and some dozen axis, the aircrafts available don't forgive a single mistake in treatment but 1C didn't see any need to give some introduction to the users beside that crappy 20 page official manual which tells nothing at all? (besides telling how to steer your aircraft with keys, lmao)

! Hurri in a hangar at Kenley- made the taxi to runway simple :P.

Copy both files ?(one is the very simple briefing) into ...Documents/1C SoftClub/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover-MOD/missions/single
(you could copy the folder there if you wish to keep things organised ;) )

Thanks again bolox, worked like a charm!
This was my first successful go-around with the Hurri Ia 100Oct. at full realistic settings in CloD. Great!

The next thing I'm asking myself is: How is one supposed to successfully navigate in CloD? I mean I might have missed something, but in order to use Nav. aids, I would have expected CloD to contain some map descriptions with Nav. stations, frequencies, morse codes etc. but I never saw any?
