Coastal Command air tactics
« on: September 16, 2012, 03:18:46 AM »

This interesting video explains the tactics for a twin-engine light armed a/c to evade a fighter.

Thanks for posting this.

I found it very interesting and informative video about 10 minutes long.  It shows very straight forward tactics that are well explained.

On an additional note is that the Coastal Command aircraft in the video is a Lockheed Hudson, which is a plane that would be very useful in IL2.

This (excellent) vid + the 4.12 Beaufort = a cracking campaign...

Thanks! I finally figured out what the "corkscrew maneuver" was.

Even so, I can't help but wonder if that training film wasn't more of a morale booster than anything else.

Looking through the Hurricane's gun camera reticule, I kept thinking "That Hudson's so dead!" as I mentally lined up deflection shots at the engine, cockpit and dorsal turret.

Two .303 turret guns vs. two or more 20-mm cannon mounted on a faster and more maneuverable plane just doesn't seem like a fair fight!
