Like a punch in the stomach!

A very intense and immersive reality shock.

For many of us that enjoy combat flight simulators one should not forget that wars are fought by real persons...with dreams, lives, loved ones, fears and uncertainties....

Thanks agracier, strong pictures with high resolution and definition, make us think it just happened yesterday, giving a much more real sense for the whole thing.

I would guess that much of the help or organizing, went into rebuilding school buildings and equipping classrooms ...

As an interesting note on schools and war-time: during the Great War parts of Alsace-Lorraine was taken by the French Army - liberated or occupied according to which side you were on of course - and one of the first things the French authorities did in the towns and villages, was re-instate French as the main school language. They appointed soldiers to teach French to the school children, who since 1871, had only had schooling in German. This was easier than one would think at first thought, since many school teachers were in the army reserves and were called up in 1914. So there was a reasonably large number of suitable teachers on hand.

In 1940 things were reversed and then in 1945 once again ...

slang for a 'sissy' or someone who is not endowed with manly virtues, or someone easily shocked.

All of us here, being keen combat pilots in the virtual world of military aviation, are naturally just the opposite of wussies ... ha ha
