Composite screens, and more :)
« on: January 21, 2011, 09:13:31 AM »

Hi there! I thought I'd share with you some Images from IL-2 during the day before modding became available. I used to submit some work to screenshotart.com before it went down. All of these pics are about 6 years old from when I was 16. Of course, the best ones were uploaded to the site that went down, and were probably forever lost.  :( If somebody in here happens to know if an FTP or recovery site was made, please tell!  :-\

Oh and this is when 1024x768 was a high-end resolution ;)

Anyways, here goes!

A first attempt at composite shot out my window at home in Norway:

An attempt to edit a pure screenshot and make things look more interesting:

Heres an attempt to enhance damage, tracer and muzzleflash effects:

And more damage effects. (Notice engine cowl and oil spills):

Also in B&W

Heres me adding tracersmoke, hit effects and engine max power exhaust:

Here is an old 23rd squadron I flew with. I always hated the sideview of IL-2 props:

Some more attempts at lighting and damage effects.. fuel vapor etc:

A mustang shredding a 109 with fearsome .50 API/T rounds. Oil splatter etc:

A P-36 gets it over France. This may look like curving smoketrail mod, but this is before mods, so photoshopped.

And here is something completely different!! :

I hand-drew this with a pencil in a Geography lesson Instead of I guess, learning why Norway is so mountanious and full of valleys because of the Glaciers and rivers carving the landscape after the ice meltet and made way for the ocean. I guess it's kind of Command And Conquer "Orca VTOL" inspired. This also, probably doesn't suit the designation "Fighter" :p

One thing I think is fun to see is that, this was my imagination BEFORE mods were out. And I tried to photoshop these images to how the game should look for realism and general visual improvement. The cool thing about this is that if you compare our HG&P mods and other neat additions, it's pretty much alike our modded IL-2!

Hope you enjoy!

Yes I believe your name rings a few bells! Thanks for the appreciation! :) A real shame that site went down. Some of the authors there made some insanely awefully nice images!

Yeah, it was a sad day when it closed.
Later some of the guys decided to open up another clubhouse which is still going strong Screenshotworld.
Do a google search and you will find it. Everyone is there still posting, not as much as the earlier day though, but
still excellent artsy aviation images. I stopped for awhile and decided to dedicate more time to doing some skins for IL-2
which is also some cool good fun. You should give it a try.
Have fun in SAS!
