IL-2 1946: The Vietnam War
« on: July 27, 2019, 02:48:51 AM »

Hello SAS,

I've made a new video about the Vietnam War.
It was recorded on B.A.T 3.6 "The Blitz" and it took me about one week to do it all. I worked on it every day and I really wanted to get it perfect.
I had a lot of fun creating this, however there were some bugs/problems during the shooting.
Most of the jets set in F.M.B refused to drop their bombs (Even by using C&C Ground attack tool and Dynamic Strike). I had to do all the droping with one plane each time.
Also one last thing I'd like to mention, the carrier "Bon Homme Richard" gave me some problems during the carrier landing. I think the "Optical landing system" also referred as "Meatball" made my game crash several times when getting closer to the rear deck.
All and all I'm very thankfull for all this community has done. IL-2 is still the best and it's because of you.
Please don't ever stop improving this game.

Best regards,

Clint Watters

I particularly liked your scenes and Shots. Carefully planned and good continuum (not sure if that's the right word to describe, bear with me) all the way till the end and nice overall dark green blue tone. Convincing. I encourage you to continue, on your own pace of course. This was very refreshing video indeed.

Hi Clint.
Nice job on the video.
I found it very immersive.
Good shot selection and edit , and a really well constructed music score.

I must say as a (former) cameraman , that the shifting in and out of focus was too much and took me out of
the "story".
To understand focus as you were trying to use it , is about 2 concepts :
depth of field , and plane of focus.
Unfortunately , because you are starting with what is ( in practicality ) a 2 dimensional source (IL2) , I don't think
you can achieve what you were trying to do - simulate a camera arriving at a plane of focus ( as IL2 as recorded is always in focus ) ,
as though the viewer is operating a news camera ( this is what you were going for  , is it not ?)
from IL2 capture.
Whatever tool you were using was either in or out of focus , and can't simulate the way focus shifting travels in 3 dimensional depth
as the lens rotates.

Still cudos for trying to achieve it.

I hope you make more videos.
If you do , I will check them out.

Thank you for your comment! I'm not a pro by any means. I only tried to get the most beautifull shots I could. Added some gaussian blur effect and zooms to bring some life to it. Might be a little influenced by live camera footages but that's about it really.
Next time I'll try to get it even better  ;D
Thanks again !
