US Marine Aviation pack (F/A-18C/D, AV-8B+) v3.7.2 Beta
« on: September 24, 2016, 10:23:30 PM »

When even v3.7.2 Beta has some bugs or problems,
I'll never work more on this branch.

I've already been working on newer v4.0 and published open Beta version here.
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,59208.0.html

V4.0 is not finished, not stable a bit, but running safer than v3.7.2 at least.
When you find some buggy behavior on v3.7.2 , it might have been solved on v4.0 .
Please check v4.0 before you write.

And v3.7.2 is NOT compatible to Engine MOD 2.8.1w or laters.
When you've installed Engine MOD 2.8.1w (or laters) , V4.0 is only usable F/A-18C/D and AV-8B+.
No need to report incompatibility about Engine MOD 2.8.xw.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
US Marine Aviation pack (F/A-18C/D, AV-8B+) v3.7.2 Beta (18th/Feb./2017)
Today's version needs SAS Engine MOD 2.7.3w.
And also air.ini entry is changed. (old AV_8A --> new AV_8B)
Original model and mod is made by S331541 (Eric).
Here is an updated Full package for SAS Engine MOD 2.7.3w by western0221.
Not to overwrite on v3.6(.x) or old v3.2 (or earlier). It may make comapatibility problem. Please clean install.
Some old mods contain the classfile 22164244D5800CDC (FuelTank.class) and make conflicts today's Engine MOD 2.7.3w.
Search this filename and delete in your #SAS folder.
In example, "! 00_WeaponsPack" , "!_F16A&C" have it in each folder.
(This main pages contain several information, notices and warning, so please read this carefully before proceed with installing the mod to avoid any future confusion, malfunction and frustration, thank you)
F/A - 18 Hornet
The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine supersonic, all-weather carrier-capable multirole combat jet, designed as both a fighter and attack aircraft (F/A designation for Fighter/Attack). Designed by McDonnell Douglas and Northrop, the F/A-18 was derived from the latter's YF-17 in the 1970s for use by the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The Hornet is also used by the air forces of several other nations. The U.S. Navy's Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, has used the Hornet since 1986.
AV - 8B Harrier II+
The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) AV-8B Harrier II is a single-engine ground-attack aircraft that constitutes the second generation of the Harrier Jump Jet family. Capable of vertical or short takeoff and landing (V/STOL), the aircraft was designed in the late 1970s as an Anglo-American development of the British Hawker Siddeley Harrier, the first operational V/STOL aircraft. Named after a bird of prey,[8] it is primarily employed on light attack or multi-role missions, ranging from close air support of ground troops to armed reconnaissance. The AV-8B is used by the United States Marine Corps (USMC), the Spanish Navy, and the Italian Navy. A variant of the AV-8B, the British Aerospace Harrier II, was developed for the British military, while another, the TAV-8B, is a dedicated two-seat trainer.
Cockpit
This is a 3d cockpit, highly detailed, functional HUD, Radar, DDI, gauges, etc but with limited function due to game engine limitation.
Notice:
1/ The aircraft have a little different flight model compare to any other aircraft currently in IL2, which might require a bit of adaptation including adjusting your own joystick setting.
2/ This mod is coding intensive and required a special mod environment to work with. It is highly recommend that you do not try to install this mod onto your current game. Make a clone of your #SAS folder before making changes. I hold no responsibility in case it does break your game. You have been warned!.
3/ This mod require editing core game java class in order to work properly. Which mean that adapting the mod to other game version from the one specified below is virtually impossible. However, even if I won't do it, I don't prevent anyone from doing so.
4/ This mod is released under the DWTFYWWI license.
5/ Limitation:
     - Not all instruments and panels are working, due to game engine limitation, some are simulated, and some are left out.
     - Damage model is buggy.
6/ Development of this project still continue even after its initial beta release. Your input will help with the project as well. If you have suggestion, please be specific, informative and provide proof in form of document or pictures.
7/ This is a BETA, therefore expect some problems guys, please kindly point them out so we can solve them one by one.
Hello western0221.
I have a CTD when i switch between engine and fuel(MISC key 5) in cockpit left HDD.
But this only happens if the aircraft carries a drop tank.
412.2 MA 5.3. + Simple update Engine MOD 2.7.1w , no additional visual / sound effects version.
Thanks a lot.
Best regards.
Hello western0221.
I have a CTD when i switch between engine and fuel(MISC key 5) in cockpit left HDD.
Code: [Select]
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError
at com.maddox.il2.objects.air.F_18.checkfuel(F_18.java:161)
at com.maddox.il2.objects.air.CockpitF_18C.movescreenfuel(CockpitF_18C.java:1943)
That's noticed in SAS Engine MOD 2.7.1w topic as:
Some old mods contain the classfile 22164244D5800CDC (FuelTank.class) and make conflicts today's Engine MOD 2.7.1w.
Search this filename and delete in your #SAS folder.
In example, "!!!!US_Marine_Aviation_Java_Pack" , "! 00_WeaponsPack" , "!_F16A&C" have it in each folder.
Modders cannot delete some files in your HDD .....
Thanks very much for the updates, I know you guys are working very hard.
I'm very confused about the F-18, the landing behaviour is now impossible for me,
so, I must ask, can anyone land this plane ?
Take off is normal, but I slow down for final approach (under 400kph) and the aircraft
suddenly rolls over violently and crashes. This behaviour was seen occasionally in the
previous version, but now it is almost always.
Anyone else experience this?
To SAS~Gerax:
I killed my new PC yesterday ..  :P
Best of luck with that Gerax, I hope it's fixed soon !
I also know F/A-18 and some other Jets have too bad behavior at landing.
They have special flight model codes inside tweaking FM values dynamic in fights instead of stock game's static FM values.
Testing those codes and how affect flying behaviors is hard and need long time.
Logging flight values how moving into the log file and analyzing or recording video capture with real time displaying those values in game HUD or ....
For me, It's hard to share my time for them soon.
I want to solve it, but need long time like 3 months.... 6 months .... 12 months.... ? ? ?
Thanks for the reply Western.
When / if you work on it, please consider the high thrust-line behaviour as well,
because that behaviour is very bad, and counter-intuitive when you fly the F-18,  F-16 etc.
(Nose pitches down when power added, and nose pitch up when power reduced.)
This is very bad at lower speeds !
A graphic here to demonstrate the current thrust/pitch effect, which feels like an offset thrust line:
At least the pitch behaviour is predictable, even if it is counter-intuitive, but the roll over effect
I spoke of before is violent and makes no sense to any pilot?
I asked a serious question before, it was not a complaint or request for improvement, I simply want
to know if anyone can land the F-18, because I am curious if I am doing something wrong. It seems
that a LOT of work has gone into the F-18 mod, and I think it must be flyable or why all this work?
I feel the subtle changes as the auto-flap is working etc, I understand a bit about what is going on
aerodynamically with this bird, but the roll-over and crash syndrome is so strange.
After the last couple of Western's mini-patches, "the roll-over-and-die" glitch was not present unless
you used airbrake at low speed and high bank angle, or fly very low speed, high bank angle and no
airbrake.  I was able to practice landings without this problem. The behaviour I see with the latest
updates is much worse than it was a couple months ago when I first flew the F-18.
The glitch is not a stall, you can be stable on higher approach speed and then bang! ... you get
knocked over and you are heading for dirt! You might recover for a few seconds and BANG! it
knocks you over again.
In real life flying the F-18, the two vertical stabs and rudders can be stalled or be adversely affected
when the airbrake is used under certain conditions, and I believe the fly-by-wire system prevents the
airbrake from opening at the crtitical limitations. In our mod, something like an aerodynamic interference
may be happening with this glitch perhaps?
The only time I've seen this sort of thing before is in simulators that don't model wind shear transitions.
Say you have two different wind layers and no smooth transition effect, you get tipped over as you fly from
one layer to the next, unlike real life, the computer shear transition is sudden and without mercy! (Hard-Line shear)
In MS flight sim, you can break wings this way!
At first, I thought it was wind shear or other weather effect in IL2, but I choose GOOD weather, no wind etc,
and it still has the glitch.
If I can be of any help, let me know what I can do to help fix this.
Oh, if you do find out the cause of it, KEEP IT for a simulated missile strike ! It will be perfect !
Anyone else having this (with or without the new patch):
Immediately after AI Start and order "Gear up"
one or both main gear becomes invincible,
but works (ie when AI lands; btw:
AI doesn't use Chute after landing).
No entry in LOG.
Tested with Westerns new EngMod 2.7.1w. Therefore I disabled
22164244D5800CDC in the US Marine Aviation pack v3.6.1, see his first post.
