Lovely! How did you put it on the truck? Would it be possible to do the same with aircraft?

I combine the two mesh and cloned class spotlight ...

add technics.ini :

[Fara]
Description  A generic car-searchlight.  blue.
Icon         antiaircraft

// Models
MeshSummer   3do/Fara/NORM/hier.him
//MeshSummerDamage ....   FIXME: do it
//MeshWinter ....   FIXME: do it

// Panzer
PanzerType       Car
PanzerSubtype     1
PanzerBody      0.001

// Weapon

MaxDistance      8000.0
HeadYawHalfRange      180.0
GunMinPitch            -1.0
GunStdPitch            0.0
GunMaxPitch            1.0         // >=90 means 0-180
HeadMaxYawSpeed         6.0
GunMaxPitchSpeed        6.0
SearchMaxConeAngle     25.0
FoundMaxConeAngle       0.0
ColorR                  0.53
ColorG                  0.84
ColorB                  1.00

add stationary.ini:

All ready -

If you're nice to see a dead car instead of a dead spotlight, then replace the file Dead.msh
And the lines in Hier.him

Looks really neat. In Korea, the Americans experimented with crossing searchlights over hilltops at night to pinpoint enemy positions for air strikes. Maybe this could work for that...
For this purpose, to make a few clones and install a different angle of the beam.

2 Depends on your settings .. It may be a simple spotlight ..

MaxDistance      8000.0
HeadYawHalfRange      180.0
GunMinPitch            -1.0
GunStdPitch            0.0
GunMaxPitch            1.0         // >=90 means 0-180
HeadMaxYawSpeed         6.0
GunMaxPitchSpeed        6.0
SearchMaxConeAngle     25.0
FoundMaxConeAngle       0.0
ColorR                  0.53
ColorG                  0.84
ColorB                  1.00
LandIntensity           3.0
LandRadius             70.0

I repeat, I do not know the logic of the spotlight in the game. Something related to the AAA classes .. I know that the line is working when some sort plane in the air ...
Try to make it no army ... Experiment  and share the results  .. Creativity - that's the main thing in modsIl2. ;)

I put the spotlight on the mountain and saw a ray of 7 km
Yes, the source of the beam has to fit into the frame at any distance ...
That's the way graphics in the game probably ...

I should explain ....
The player sees luch spotlight ONLY if the source is located within the frame ...
I can not imagine how it can be implemented on an airplane.

Would it be possible to attach one to a ship?
In the pacific there have been several night time sea battles where searchlights were used to blind the opponents.
Would be great to simulate some of the battles in the Slot for instance, or the experimental early plane radar assisted night raids on Truk..  8)

A big landinglight that you can turn on and off would be very cool!

Wow, this is an old thread but I was curious if anything was ever done on the Leigh Light idea!
