Great stuff! The effects in the bombing of the harbour reminded me of "Thunderbirds are go"!  ;D Thanks for sharing,

Interesting footage, thanks for sharing. I loved the special effects in the bombing scenes, really well done for that time.

I think that this great video, would be better placed in the section "movies and screenshots.
Could you please Cirx, Malone or someone, move it there?

I believe that this is footage from a legendary, but hard to track down, entertainment movie made by the Japanese in Burma, with actors playing pilots in a fictional story. In other words, it's a war movie.

It was shot on location at real Japanese airbases during the war, using the real planes.

The name of the film is "Hayabusa Regiment"

And, if you really want your mouth to water: it was originally shot, and shown in theaters, in very high quality color film.

Good find indeed, even if a posed propagande film. Note that at 2:21 a stationary Buffalo appears- seems to be damaged (starboard wing lower than port wing, presumably wheel missing), and is an ex-ML Brewster- the fuselage band has an interruption with a Dutch-style serial number plus what appears to be a white horizontal stripe of the red-white-blue national flag marking adopted after 23/2/1942. Also, no (RAF) roundels on upper wing surfaces which the airborne Buffs do have. Unfortunately this clip is too grainy to make out details when run at full screen.

There's a bit about a third of the way through that looks like outakes from the Thunderbirds puppet series. This extraordinary footage really does underline what IL2 is lacking - cutscenes of grimacing japanese pilots. Also, when are computer games going to realise that world war two was fought in greyscale?

Seriously, that was a good find. Obviously staged in many places but where on earth did they get that footage of enemy P40's?
