UPDATE - New NMF F-86 skin
« on: August 22, 2010, 12:56:17 PM »

After trying for years to come up with a NMF that I liked, I think I've finally hit on it. Still a work in progress as I have some minor details to add to the template. Comments or critiques are welcomed.

Man, I wrestled with the F-86 for a long time.  I opted to make combat/weathered skins, thus avoided the seemingly impossible shiny bare metal look that I could never get right.

But your bare metal looks awesome.  Really awesome.

Will a template ever be available?

Best,
Lefty

Thanks for the replies. I definitely will release this as a template. I'd like to see what paint schemes others can come up with. The internals are from the Blaze template so I assume I'll need his permission to use. I hate to re-invent the wheel so to speak.

I wonder if someone can answer this question for me? I've played around with the gun muzzle openings on the nose of the Sabre and came up with some that I think are  more eye pleasing (to me anyway) than they are as part of the 3D model. I've included a picture of them here.

Is there anyway to play around with the 3D model and eliminate that portion of the plane so that this just lays in place? I know how particular some are about their work but I've noticed lately some plane models being improved. I have no knowledge of what it takes to play around with the meshes and all that.

Changing those things can stretch/warp the mapping, I'd just stay with the 3D model as it is, it is technically more accurate with the holes than without and also this bitmap view is only really technically correct from one point of view, if seen from other directions it would be wrong and that's where 3D is correct. If IL2 had a good engine that lighted and reflected things on aircraft properly then we shouldn't really have to do any lighting at all part from rivets unless you decide to put that into the model itself. So stick with the 3D model so long as it is accurate, with lighting and shading you can't get it right for every single angle that you look at the plane from, you can only do as much as you can.

Nearly finished. Found this profile on the web and thought it attractive.
