It really seems as though only certain strings (words) are permitted for the name of the Explode property. "Wagon" and "Wood" seem to be verboten. Any such discrimination must be occurring outside the Java classes. If so, it must have been introduced at some point after earlier game versions like 4.08, because I recall this all having worked before.

I wonder what the full list of acceptable strings contains, if such is the case. "Car" is good, as is "Metal". Time to try out a bunch of possibilities.

I have thrown my hands up trying to see if some other property names might be discoverable. I've settled on the existing permitted strings for the Explode property name. So far forall stationary train wagons I've substituted the original strings with:
  "CarFuel"
  "Artillery"
  "Stationary"
and of course this magical new one, "CarMetal"  ;)

Remaining ones available for use are:
  "Car"
  "Tank"
  "Aircraft"
"Searchlight" (this one I added anew some time ago, to add random, low probability, small fire and/or smoke for destroyed searchlights, which formerly never had such effects.)

It's less than ideal because these effect sets were intended for other objects, and the effects for train cars which are part of moving trains are different. But it's better than nothing. ;)  Perhaps I might further refine the effects with stationary wagons in mind, so as to get a bit closer to an overall betterment. But that's not a high priority right now, with this getting me about 3/4 of the way to where I had hoped.

To anyone still running stock effects... What do you get when destroying stationary train wagons. These are the ones NOT defined in static.ini, but rather are in technics.ini, being listed in the FMB's objects among the group named Stationary_Stock.

So testing a clean 4.12.2

Stationary trains which are very few and come under Stationary Objects, explode when hit but no fire/smoke.
Changed all to CarFuel with no difference seen, so at least with B.A.T. CarFuel gets a result.
Pretty horrible damage models as well.

Shane,
No fire or smoke? The stock handling for stationary wagons has for a long time (since at least 4.09) generated the same explosion as used for tanks or fuel trucks, and the same smoke as used for a loco's stack would be generated for at least a quarter minute.

"CarFuel" is the string assigned to non-train, mobile fuel trucks. It turns out it's good that it can be 'repurposed' for use by stationary wagons.

They explode (not random like my B.A.T. install) with a fireball and puff of smoke.
Lasts a quarter of a second not minute.
