Tight Running Course map?
« on: March 02, 2025, 07:30:36 AM »

Anyone know of a map with a deep canyon to run?

Grand Canyon is good, but the cartoon like "graphic" for the zoomed out overall map view is awful for trying to locate terrain features.

Or maybe any tall objects to build a corse that are "solid" and not a ghost you can fly through?

I'm trying to set up a tight maneuvering course.  I tried to build one but there are not many objects to use that are large and solid, like the taller radio tower you can just fly through.  The big red dock crane is the tallest solid object I could use.  I wish the sky scrapers were solid.

Do you need just a random canyon?
For air races?

I don't know any canyon map beside the " Grand canyon " map .

Perhaps could you try to check a valley on a mountain map , like " Caucasus " or "Alps " , to find a trail for a racing mission .

"Do it yourself!" :)

It would only be a little bit of work, to create a racing map with a canyon course as you would like it.

Don't forget podracing.

Aren't the skyscrapers solid? I remember breaking a couple of choppers flying around them.

They are ghosts too, maybe part of them are solid, I've found that some objects that are tall are only partially solid.

That's the reason I need to find something else since I build a whole course using the sky scrapers.

I've worked out this so far...

Not sure how to post images on here anymore but here is the link to where I posted a screen shot.

Got it so once you are in you can't get out, and there is enough room for a " Small one manned fighter..." to maneuver around enough to survive the turn coming up...

I'm experimenting with angles of turns that are doable right now.

Star Wars trench run, just add some turrets.

I'll take a look at the skyscrapers and add collision boxes to those that need one.

P.S.   I'm going to cobble together a podracer and at some stage make a map, but I have a few projects higher in the queue at the moment.

No collisions or shadows!
To have such a large object without a shadow I find baffling, especially when they're very simple models (28 faces).

Hi WingWalker,

again:
What exactly do you need?
Only a trench in the ground, where you can place the objects shown in your picture?
You coud easily create a small map with that. Especially if you only need some "walls".

I'm also working in an objective and also a reason to have to fly in the tunnel/trench vs just cheating and flying over it.  If you layer them, the large bridge object isn't penetrable by ships with smaller guns.

No collisions or shadows!
Yeah, I figured it was just a limitation of the game and large objects.  Every very tall thing I've played with so far is a ghost.

The large red crane works good because it allows you to create a "roof" making an structure to fly inside.  But the extra high large red crane is a ghost, you have to use the lower one.

A pod race map would be pretty cool, something to challenge your flying skill and a/c choice.  I would of thought something like that would of been created for IL-2 in the past.

Thanks, I was just wondering if such a map already existed, I've never modded nor created maps before.  I don't know every map personally, and it would take a while to look over all the terrain of every map.

Does that Arena Map still work, and will it work with BAT?  I tried adding a map once and I didn't do it right.

Though the Grand Canyon does seem like a good "trench" or " Maverick" candidate to work with.
