Aircraft not rolling(On their wheels)
« on: July 09, 2024, 12:38:15 PM »

Hi everyone! It has been a very long time! After a long hiatus I decided to revisit this beloved game. Unfortunately I have immediately run into an issue that I don't recall having ever before seen.

THUS, though I consider myself far from a Newbie, I will ask for help here, since this may in-fact be a newbie issue. At the very least it may be useful to another player if they run into this issue.(assuming of course that we can fix it)

On to my problem!

So I currently have installed only a stock(Steam) game version. I have tweaked NETSPEED in the .conf, and added two Bf-109E skins. Otherwise the game is as it shipped from Steam.

I built a mission flying Bf-109G6 as low level strike plane carrying the 500kg bomb. Saved and started the mission.

~Start the aircraft.
~Flaps to takeoff.
*~Ensure tailwheel is free.
*~Ensure chocks are removed.
~Instrument lights as desired.
~I push the throttle forward and the engine roars.

***~ about 90% of the times, the aircraft CREEPS forward as though its stuck in glue, barely rolling. The issue seems MORE prevalent on any SUBSEQUENT re-flight, and LESS prevalent on the initial flight. ~***

~If I restart the MISSION the issue persists.
~If I restart the GAME it SOMETIMES fixes it until it breaks again.

*~ Changing loadout seems to have no affect on the likelihood of the issue.
*~ Spawning under nets, and in the open both exhibit the issue.

Thanks in advance for any help. I know there is not a lot of information here. There was no .log. I'm just hoping that someone has seen this before and may know a cause, or fix, or the procedure for avoiding this.

Much appreciation to everyone!

The only thing that comes to mind here is that the game for some reason believes that you are pressing down the brakes when you aren't. Two possibilities come to mind:

1) If you're using a keyboard key to control wheel breaks: it might be that IL-2 thinks that that key is being pressed when it isn't. Just press it again, and that will reset IL-2's notion of whether that key is being pressed.

IL-2 can become confused as to whether a keyboard key is being pressed when the window switches out of focus while that key is being held down. It happens like this:
Step 1: An IL-2 player switches the IL-2 window out of focus while holding the (for example) X key on the keyboard
Step 2: The IL-2 window is now out of focus, and IL-2 believes that the X key is being held down
Step 3: The player releases the X key, but since IL-2 wasn't in focus when this happened, IL-2 didn't notice this
Step 4: The player switches back to the IL-2 game window, where IL-2 still believes that the X key is being pressed, even though it isn't, because IL-2 was out of focus when the key stopped being pressed

2) Are you using break pedals, or otherwise some axis of a controller to control your wheel brakes? It might be that they're misaligned, or that you've assigned the incorrect axis to the breaks control.

Thanks for the ideas FL!

In answer to 1): Tapping brake again was the first thing I tried, to no effect.

As for 2): I'll go back through my bindings and make sure there are no conflicting settings or axis set up.

I will report back ASAP
Thanks

I also tend to think that it is the brake key at fault

AL/5 South of Kiev

The only thing that comes to mind here is that the game for some reason believes that you are pressing down the brakes when you aren't.

It was indeed a keybind issue. Brake was mapped to an antique Logitech Extreme3DPro. As soon as I mapped to a standard key the problem ceased...

Thank you to everyone for thier help!

Best

Annoying issue, one that I frequently have too.
Except that key I seem to get everything in Settings well prepped up on a fresh Install.
This Post made me to write a Sticky note on my spare brain note board here.

Best wishes
