that is correct it is however strange to miss files maybe some files were corrupted during download as your errors are starting immediately at the loading of the plane classes do you have a back up of you working version?

Actually, no. I don't have a backup of my working version. In hindsight, upgrading without making a backup was a fairly dumb move.

What does the version number text say while the game is loading?

I have a suspicion that updates might have been installed in the wrong order. If you had BAT 4.2, then installed hotfix 4 instead of patch 2 next, that could be the cause of your problem.

same also ctds on opening screw it im uninstalling and re installing

Yeah reinstalling the game and mods worked kinda odd though that it would be happening

I think my download of the 4.2.1 update might have been corrupted since after installing it, the splash screen still only shows the version as just 4.2

So... I basically just completely uninstalled IL-2 Sturmovik to start from scratch and it seems to be working now.

How it happened? Uninteressting. If an Installation shows defects, corrupt parts, I would always search troubles at my end.
Re-Download Files if necessary, but always start with a clean Install again. Until you have it.
A corrupt Install at my parts always was a corrupt Download or forgotten, twisted Step. Such things can happen.
Start again, takes 10 Minutes of your life.
