Its been a long time...
« on: December 01, 2023, 08:38:57 AM »

When il2 first came out and I began to be able to take off and land without crashing, and able to do ground attack without plowing into the target, I got interested in the FMB and put some missions on mission4today under the name loon.
I did the upgrades as they appeared and especially liked the Pacific fighters carrier warfare.
When modding began I joined AllAircraftArcade and played around with various things making trees, houses, explosions etc. and then got into map making. The Thailand and Upper and lower Burma maps were mine.
I had computer problems and lost everything.  It's been over ten years since then.
I enjoyed making huge missions with far too much action for my computer to run at more than a stutter.
For example on best Pearl Harbor map I completely populated it as accurately as possible including the correct number of Japanese aircraft in the attack.
I'm sure a modern computer would be able to run such a mission without problems.
However I need to start from scratch.
The thought of trying to get the original, update it, then add all the mod packs like BAT seems daunting.
I was wondering if someone with a fully working set up would be able to load their complete install onto a memory stick or small drive.
Would it even work?
Of course I'd reimburse any costs.
I'd really like to get flying again.

Welcome back. As fate would have it, Larschance and I are making a campaign for the Burma Lower map now. Were you formerly known as Fabianfred?

The fastest way to get the game these days is to get it online from Steam or Gog, take it back to version 4.12, and load BAT per the instructions on this site. When I looked today IL-2 1946 was $2.49 US on GOG.

You can copy/put it an a stick and copy it from there, or run it from the stick.

But GOG version works fine (make sure to uncheck auto update) and use the toool to revert it to 4.12 and mod it.
Modern computer can also be pushed to stutter with over the top maps as IL-2 stil only uses 1 core, (you can force it to use more but usualy that causes more stutters, and it can not use more than 2GB RAM

@vonofterdingen: i think Skipperffb was Skipper online, atleast i remember a skipper fying around.

I see.

Valid question.

Skipperffb, I'm gonna turn you into "observer" status for the time being.
Please get back to me via email - mike (at) sas1946.com - and explain whether you are "Fabianfred" or not.
If I don't receive any feedback, I consider the answer to be "yes" which would be equal to a full ban on this and any further account of yours, but I'm giving you benefit of doubt, that's why I'm asking for your feedback.
