Having CTD issues on startup, anybody else got the same?
« on: July 07, 2023, 01:13:24 AM »

Been having this issue with GB for a while, but the game crashes in the initial loading screen on startup.
Tried verifying the files, no joy.
Tried tweaking the settings through the startup.cfg file, no joy.
I managed to get it running in safe mode, albeit with incredibly slow FPS, although despite changing some graphics settings in safe mode (which I think was the initial cause of the issue), the game still CTD's back in normal mode.

Happened to me two times so far in my GB "career" (didn't play that game for more than a year now, just saying).
First occurance was my own fault: I've had mods installed, updated the game, and the mods killed it. That being said, make sure you've got no mods active - Steam won't care for that, so "verifying files" doesn't help in that case.
Second occurance was an error on Steam itself. The game would not run through Steam, but it would run standalone. You can check this by trying to run the game standalone when Steam has been terminated: Start il2.exe from "Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game".
If that works, then you are facing a Steam error and should try to update your Steam Client first.

Haven't had any mods installed and I tried out the game through the standalone exe and those don't do anything, so I dunno whats happening there. Something tells me its got something to do with my drivers but they seem to be up to date.

Windows Event Log, i.e. the Application Log (alternatively System Log), might give a clue.

That's Intel HD Graphics.
It looks like your PC is using the CPU for rendering instead of a dedicated GPU.
That - of course - cannot work with GB.
If it's a laptop, you should have some kind of utility to assign certain applications to the GPU instead of CPU-integrated graphics and vice versa.

Holy Sh*t it finally worked! Just had to switch it from CPU to GPU (dunno why my Computer thought it needed to run it on CPU but ok)

Cheers for the help man  ]cheers[
