Sorry about that.  I am taking it easy.  The GUI development is my first priority so I can have all features in.  Fortunately UQCT (which I worked on until 2021 when I moved yet again for my career) has much of the work I'll need to get the files from IL-2 BAT to be loaded into my program... I'll use the same format of course.  Since I already was able to load UQMT into VB2022, that is a huge bonus.  For some of the engine work, I'll actually use code from my classic UQMG (yep, in VB6).  Fortunately a lot of it involves separate routines and functions which I'll be able to adapt into VB2022 because the BASIC language standard has to be supported as new GUI and development environments are developed.  And I was able to make VB6 Professional (I still own the original Visual Studio 6 Discs!) work in Windows 10... so I can still work in it... but the important thing is to be able to use the coding logic in the new VB2022 for UQMG Max.  Not as DLLs, mind you, but actually as code in VB2022 version.

Yeah... geek talk, sorry.

Sweet.

I am travelling so not much time for IL-2, sadly.  I am thinking through some features which are viable and I think will add.  One will be a Waypoint Optimizer.  It is not a FMB like interface.  This will be done so you can make bulk changes quickly.  Again, remember, UQMG is not FMB, it is meant to make flying quick, easy and enjoyable.

The idea is that the user should be able to define by flight, by team or by entire mission the behavior in different points of the mission:
* Take Off
* After Takeoff
* Transit
* Action area
* Transit
* Prior to Landing
* Landing

Things like type of takeoff, type of landing, speed in point, altitude in point, type of attack, pattern of landing, patrol type, FAC type.

If you have 25 waypoints in a mission, this is labor intensive.  UQMG aims to make this easy.

Since I am still early in the design and feature development for UQMG 46 Max, I have decided to increase the overall number of flight Groups to 12 per team.  Basically 6 "Primary" flight groups that can be cloned/copied to infinite numbers (well... not infinite, it is based on the number of regiments in the game), and 6 "Related" flight groups that can be used as independent flight groups (which can also be cloned) or can be used together with their related primary group to form Composite Flights (Zveno, Tug+Glider, Airship+Fighters, etc) or things like having a flight escort the other.

Why?  Won't this make writing map templates harder?  Well, I am going to use a radically different way to design map templates... it is not going to be at all like what I did with UQMG classic.

Also, I figure that with 12 Flight Groups in each team, I can create missions with a lot of depth for a quick mission generator.  Looking at some revolutionary features...  Viva La Revolucion!

Think of it this way...

Say you decide to have a mission that uses... say:

R1 = 4xP-51s (With 2 Clone Flights) = 12xP51s (escorting flight 7 or C1)
R2 = 4xP-38s (With 2 Clone Flights) = 12xP38s (escorting flight 8 or C2)
R3 = 4xP-47s (With 2 Clone Flights) = 12xP47s (escorting flight 9 or C3)
R4 = 4xSpitfires (With 3 Clone Flights) = 16xSpitfires (Fighter Sweep)
RC1 = 3xB-17s (with 6 Clone Flights) = 21xB-17s (escorted by P-51s)
RC2 = 3xB-26s (with 6 Clone Flights) = 21xB-26s (escorted by P-38s)
RC3 = 3xB-24s (with 6 Clone Flights) = 21xB-24s (escorted by P-47s)

Just on the Red team, that is 36 escorts for 63 bombers plus 16 Spits... so that is 105 planes on that team alone.  And I used 7 of a total of 12 flight Groups in that team... so you can see the variety of scenarios possible, once you introduce other features, like spawn waves, and alternative locations for the planes (this is a new concept in UQMG 46 Max).

The idea is to make it intuitive and easy to use.  In the Flight Edit Screen, you can pick any of the available 24 flight groups (12 Red, 12 Blue) as your flight groups for you to fly in.  To edit the Group, you will use the Flight Editor which gives you all the options for the flight Group.  Below is the current concept for the Flight Editor:



There will be default features, and you will be able to save and load your own UQMG missions.  When I release it, I'll throw in some sample missions to give an idea of the types of things you can do.  But that is some time away, of course.  I still have to work and spend time with family!  :)

What an amazing tool! I'm eagerly tracking the progress, this vividly reminds me of tools like EMG for Great Battles. I would love an alternative for 1946!

Out of curiosity, will this support COOP missions? I primarily play quick missions with singular buddies these days, and being able to do the same thing in 1946 with ease is a personal dream!

This looks very interesting. If you create a mission or campaign using this and offer it to the community would the player have to install this mod in order for  the mission or campaign to work.
