Now for the bit of odd history.  In 1961 the US Army acquired 3 Fiat G91s (2 single seaters and 1 two seater) from the Luftwaffe for field  testing at Ft. Rutger, Alabama. At the time, the Army was considering acquiring its own fast mover ground attack aircraft much to the chagrin of the USAF. Ultimately the Fiat lost out to a modified Skyhawk but the Army never let a contract for a close support jet. One single seater apparently crashed during testing.  The other two were reportedly sent back to the Luftwaffe in 1962 although one account claims that they were eventually scrapped at Ft. Rutger.
