HOTAS keeps crashing
« on: November 09, 2022, 04:41:06 PM »

I first was using a T16000 Flight Stick and that seemed to work, but the throttle was in an awkward spot.  Being a beginner, I was trying to avoid the $300-$500 investment in a HOTAS set up so I bought the T16000 HOTAS from Amazon.  It is really intermittent...it works on one mission and then the next mission I have no throttle and no stick.  My computer is relatively new i9 with a 3080 video card so I hope it isnt the computer.  I think I would like to go to either an integrated HOTAS, if there is such a thing, or go to a decent flight stick with a throttle on the left side, rudder and maybe a few switches.  Am lost when it comes to any experience.  Any suggestions would be apprecieated.

I realize this is not a BAT issue...the BAT seems to be working great and thanks for all the work people did on it.

G'day mate

You could get the throttle and rudder pedals to go with the flight stick.
There are certainly better (expensive) options out there but I can say I'm happy with the throttle and pedals.
Only thing I do not like about the pedals is that they don't centre enough when your feet are on them.

I have this set-up too, as an intermittent player now I couldn't justify the expense of Warthog etc. and being of age-limited intellect I restrict myself to WW1 or 2 and avoid those new-fangled jets, so there are more than enough sliders, hat switches and buttons on the TM16000 for those simpler eras of flight. I find this set-up more than adequate for my use. Can't get the pedals recognised in WOFF for some reason, so I use either stick twist-axis or the flapper on the throttle unit when I remember it's there!
It's been a 'old dog/new tricks interface with me, having to learn using a new HOTAS after so many years with the previous one before it gave up.
I agree genX about the lack of centering on the pedals, but one gets used to it after a while. I found the throttle slider too stiff which made the lightish unit slide over desk surface, but a silicone dry-lube cured that.

Strange the problems OP is experiencing; sounds like a faulty unit or USB port, or maybe there is conflict on assignments?

This is the same setup as I had (just sent it back), but I was having problems with the throttle portion not being recognized, or should I say it stopped being recognized when I went on a second mission in a campaign.  It was pretty frustrating, though when it did work it was great.  Now not sure if it was the throttle as Amazon threw it over my fence or if it is the computer not recognizing the usb.  I wonder if a powered USB hub might help?
