Ticking sound

What is this ticking sound coming from the forums? I don't see any notifications in the reply area.

It's the "SAS Chat Room", the shoutbox at the bottom of the forum.
There's an icon bar in the lower right corner of it, the leftmost icon is a speaker mute icon - if you click it so the icon is activated (blueish), the tick sound will be gone.
