V1 (Doodlebug) Sound
« on: March 04, 2022, 09:44:05 PM »

Hi all,

I downloaded a sound file of the V1 Doodlebug Rocket. Plus made tiny adjustments to it. Any tips on how to get it to work in the game? Would be great.

Cheers.

I guess I can help with that
I've made some sound effects for the game, mostly engines and explosions

I guess it also only needs to be made ready to put in a loop and then export it in the correct format
Although I have no idea what the v1's soundfile is named

Hi Atoka220,

The name of the sound file is v1.wav.

G,
Very nice, is that from the original German film of V1 operations, with it on the ramp ready for TO?

Possibly a little fast for inflight sound?  I think it sounds a little lower and slower in flight.  Certainly good enough for the sim!

People said it sounded like a Model T with a blowing exhaust.  If I can, I'll play it to my neighbour who was born in 1935, and lived in London during the war.  He has described the sound as a deep drone.

Thanks

Shessi

Thanks Shessi,

What I can do is make another sound file for it for a inflight sound.

Cheers 😊

G,
Played it to him this evening, and he said it sounded very like he remembered.  He said that when one was coming, you heard this droning sound, a long way off, getting louder and louder, then very loud...and hoping that it would continue...if not, sudden silence, and a mad dive for a shelter.  He never actually saw one flying only heard the sound and a couple of explosions.  Luckily not near to him!

Cheers

Hi Shessi,

It would’ve been a horrible event to experience back then. It’s a sound you would never forget.

I've made it into a loop and saved as a mono WAV file that the game can play

https://www.mediafire.com/file/w6ekb325g4me0ww/v1loop.wav/file

Now if you use a soundmod that has a V1 sound, you can just rename it to the same filename and overwrite it
If no, you can try putting it into Il-2\my_samples as v1.wav

If I'd know exactly how, I could make it into a soundmod in itself by creating a preset file too and all but I'm not that advanced yet ;D
