Andy,
Superb work on Eskimo G75, not being patronising, but nicely improved painting on this model.  Like the tin foil sea (great scale waves), think it could do with some hi-lo lights poss?

And I love your end of post pics. Art deco returning to port impressionist painting, the staged telephoning WWII WRN, and a 'pull-through' ooeerr! with the pom-poms pic...and what's with this more 'silly-buggery' and 'hairy stick'..are you sure you're not an ex matelot??...;)

Cheers

Thanks for kind words, Shessi - yes, the painting's getting better, this shipbuilding lark is a totally different discipline - I'm slowly getting more comfortable with it.  ;)

Have started with the water gel - looking a bit blue at the moment, but getting darker as it dries. Will see how it's all set in the morning before playing with bow waves...

...it'll be interesting to see how this tinfoil and gel technique transfers over when I bust out a big ship.

As for the pics - I feel that the models should be put into some form of historical context and 'humanising', otherwise they're just lumps of plastic. I spend as much if not more time researching as I do building and painting - would be a shame to waste the pics. I hope people enjoy them, be they photos or artwork.

...And no, not an ex-matelot, but born and raised in a naval town - some it was bound to rub off...oo-er missus!  ;D

Thanks for looking - back soon with a bit o' spit and polish...  ;)

Still waiting for the water gel to set, I'll give it a few more hours...

Meanwhile, I don't know if the crew figures are going to make the final cut...

Thanks for looking in - back soon with more miniature maritime mayhem  ;)

Close of play today. A few more applications of foam/spray to go...

Thanks as always for dropping by - back soon with more plastic pandemonium  ;)

One step forward, one step back. The whitecappy sea looked much better in photo's than it did to the naked eye, it was also a little overpowering and detracted from the ship itself - so back to square one with some blue paint before another application of water gel and finishing touches with the spray/foam.

A few crew figures now in situ on the bridge - I'm resigned to a 50% casualty rate due to the carpet monster and clumsy cutting off at the knees. As a pretty decent figure painter, I'm coming to terms with the fact that at this scale, they're never going to be hyper-detailed, but will add a certain something to the finished article.

Anyway - here's how she looks at the moment...

Thanks yet again for looking in - back soon with more deck-scrubbing distractions  ;)

Your best work yet Andy, nice to see some crew figures on the bridge.

Thanks old chum - I'm slowly getting to where I want to be with this ship modelling mularkey.  ;D

An interesting curio for you all. A 1969 East German movie about the evils of fascist-glorifying capitalist imperialist plastic modelling...truly fascinating on so many levels. I wonder how many East German kids saw it and thought "I'm having some of that!"

As far as I got tonight. Much happier with another coat of water gel on the simpler base. Just some touching-in with foam/spray and the dreaded rigging to go. I *might* get her done and dusted tomorrow if my family doesn't have other plans for me...

Thanks for dropping by - back soon with more seafaring shenanigans  ;)

Well...after much domestic upheaval,  there she is done. Still much room for improvement with rigging, but if you don't try, you don't get better.

Anyway, behold my mighty fleet... :P

To the next build...and beyond!  :)

Thanks as always for looking in - back soon with more sea-faring silly-buggery  ;)

Looking at the box art, all that's missing is some foul black fake smoke being emitted from the funnels, unless this is the Eco-friendly climate change version. :)

What ho, old chum! I think a lot about smoke. ;D

If done right (there's the challenge), it would certainly add a lot to the finished article. I'd love to do HMS Glowworm as seen from the Hipper...

Love 'em!

Those figures are really well painted, considering what size they are.

Good to see three different sea colours, like the middle on the best.  The bow spray/foam really gives them movement, impressive.

Just a suggestion, maybe show a pic with something for scale, I think some people might not realise that the HMS Eskimo model is only about 6.5'' / 16.5cm long?

More power to your friggin' in the riggin'....

Cheers
