not sure where to put this , jap planes able to over speed
« on: October 20, 2021, 06:59:11 PM »

hey there,
I was trying out a late model italian fighter against a jap zero circa 1940. I was curious as the developers of IL2 1946 have stated close to real modelling, when how can this be so ?
I dove away at 568 kph with a spiral but the zero did NOT fall apart from over speed, as they were known to do , the old IL2 version/s the zero wing would fall off. any clues as to why we now have 1939/40 zeeks which seem to defy logic AND still shoot the 6 off of you.? This was in a quicky mis. btw.
grrrrr
cheers

Huh? That speed is not much faster than the max horizontal speed of the Zero. A Wiki entry suppplies a never exceed speed of 600 km/h. Now, if the flight model is permitting high roll rates or 8G bat turns, that would be unrealistic. But a not high-G turn at such a speed should not by itself lead to break-up.
