Clearly I'm spreading myself too thinly. The even older P-40 project and my ongoing effects pack are taking top priority. And numerous other distractions which tempt me, such as maps, map objects and other smaller cockpit touch-ups, are slowing me way down. I need to clone a couple or few copies of me... 😉

Is there much work left to be done on this?

The canopy needs rebuilding. I got started on a new instrument panel, where the gauges will be seen a bit of a distance behind the circular cutouts, in the manner of the Wildcat. I'm basing this on the F2A-2 cockpit, which is already more correct to the type than is the cockpit originally made for this Finnish variant.

If this work is still in your mind please consider also a tweak for the damage model. How it is possible to have the sight destroyed without the minimum sign of damage or scratch to the windshield and/or canopy (unless the gunner from the bomber is using some futuristic ultrasound Mgun).

This is a long time bug from the old days that was never fixed.

The example is from latest BAT with your B-239 cockpit restyle

Really appreciate your work

Syncing sight damage with canopy glazing holes requires to be sure than both are invoked at the same time. Typically, glass holes are spread over three separate meshes, and each is invoked in turn when a particular cockpit damage state is triggered. When the damaged sight model is switched to, either one of the 'general' hole meshes has a suitably located hole and is drawn at that time. Or a dedicated mesh placing a suitable hole or holes could be utilized.

Anyhoo, this is not a difficult task, requiring only to be aware and plan accordingly.

I think that there are DM models with holes in the bullet proof glass that should come into play when reflector glass is damaged. But i am not really an expert on this.

In any case with this type of damage difficult to think that the bullet was coming from any other direction than the front otherwise I suppose that the pilot head would be somehow affected.

In fact it is already a miracle that he is still alive, another factor in favor of ultrasounds gun that can shatter crystal but not plexiglas, not bullet proof glass, not pilot head.

I'm fairly sure that the Buffalo did not employ bullet-proof glass, with perspex use being total. Otherwise I would have isolated the glass portion and given it a greenish tint. As is my wont when playing with cockpits having it present.

As to the sight being hit, this could occur with rounds coming from almost any direction, including through the thin hull sheeting, where no heftier bits are otherwise in the path.

Where I am motivated, for armored glass I'll make up an impact texture of the dense 'spider web' pattern. My first such implementation, which might be the first for any of the game's planes, was for the Wildcat back in 2016, my then most ambitious cockpit mod.

well in the case in question the bullet for sure was coming from the front as I was on the 6 of an SB bomber but I was just joking....seems strange to me that the Fins didn't put an armored glass for the protection of their pilots and planes considering the very limited resources they had however as said I am not an expert just a frequent flyer of the B-239 that's one of my favorites.

Note: I've updated the full archive, which fully replaces the first one posted. Same d/l link in the top post.

After getting a question about the displaced antenna wire, I decided to fix it, as well as the gyro compass behavior. And I made a proper damaged instrument gauge texture, to match the undamaged one.

I downloaded this new cockpit and I still have a double antenna cable, one is hanging in the air, maybe I'm doing something wrong
