Il-2 stops loading after 1.856KB only after reboot
« on: October 07, 2021, 09:20:37 AM »

Every time I start IL-2 after rebooting the computer or if I have been playing some other game, Il-2 stops exactly after loading 1.856KB, some times a bit more, I close the program, I start IL again -2 and starts normally.

It does not get to give a Log.

It is not something new, it may be two or three years ago and I think that with DBW it also happened, but I'm not sure. Now I only use BAT 4.2, with and without mods.

IL-2 is the only game or program that does.

This old computer is almost just for gaming:
I7-4790K @ 4.00GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080
RAM: 20GB
Windows 7 Home Premium

Right now CPU & GPU are a bit overclocked, but with or without overclocking the behavior of IL-2 is the same.

There are no other programs running in the background, except Track-IR and Trhusmaster T.A.R.G.E.T. software.

IL-2 is installed on an external disk and it is not SSD. But it was always installed like this. Well, years before the problem happened.

I have no more clues, I think.

Do any of you have any idea why this can happen?

Thanks in advance.

I think I had the same problem some time ago. Here is the remedy:

The method is safe and it works.

It cost me a reinstallation of the system. First, I did an update from Win7 to Win 10 - it didn't help. Generally Win 10 does not suit me, so I put the system from scratch. In the meantime, I found a way to fix it. It was about 2 years ago.

I had no idea what could be the origin of this problem, I usually find solutions in the forum before asking, but no one seemed to suffer from this. Tried to fix it a long time ago, but with no luck, so I lived with it.

Today, out of curiosity more than anything else, I asked, just in case :)

In any case, I thank you very much.

Hello friends,

perhaps one of you has a hint for me.

Since the last big Win10 update I can't put any icons in the taskbar (I can but the icon doesn't work!).

I've been searching for this problem with Google for two weeks - there is no help from Microsoft either.

I know the topic doesn't belong here but maybe ...

Thanks in advance,

The only thing that comes to mind - toggling various options on and off in the taskbar properties - maybe it will repair itself.

Concerning the original issue:
Instead of removing system files I'd recommend to rather unregister the component.
Reason: You can revert that step.

Steps to proceed:
  • Open a command prompt with administrator privileges.
If you don't know how to do that, you should basically not fiddle with any system files at all.
  • Enter "regsvr32 -u c:\windows\system32\gameux.dll" and hit return.
On 64 Bit Systems, additionally enter "regsvr32 -u c:\windows\SysWOW64\gameux.dll" and hit return again.

And since I said you can revert it, here is how to, just in case:
  • Open a command prompt with administrator privileges.
If you don't know how to do that, you should basically not fiddle with any system files at all.
  • Enter "regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\gameux.dll" and hit return.
On 64 Bit Systems, additionally enter "regsvr32 c:\windows\SysWOW64\gameux.dll" and hit return again.

Concerning Gerd's issue, here is something worth a try. It's just a guess, but an educated one:
  • Open the Task Manager. Here’s a tip: Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.
  • Click File > Run New Task
  • Make sure you have a check mark beside "Create this task with administrative privileges"
  • Type PowerShell and click "OK"
  • Type the following in the PowerShell prompt:
    $manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml'; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest
  • Hit Return, then close the PowerShell window
  • Reboot

...and since Gerd's OS language is German, here comes the german guide:
  • Task Manager öffnen. Tipp: Strg+Shift+ESC drücken.
  • Datei > Neuen Task ausführen
  • Stelle sicher, dass die Checkbox "Diesen Task mit Administratorrechten erstellen" aktiviert ist
  • PowerShell eingeben und "OK" anklicken
  • Folgendes im PowerShell Fenster eingeben:
    $manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml'; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest
  • Enter drücken, dann das PowerShell Fenster schließen
  • Neustart

Thank you Storebror,

I followed your instructions, Kelso's advice worked, but if there are any future side effects, yours allows me to reverse the situation. In any case thanks to both of you. :)

Sorry I can't help you BK, I got stuck on Win 7, I only have old games. To work I use Mac.

The script I linked doesn't delete anything. It just renames the gameux.dll file to gameux.dll.Ubeogesh. You can return to the original name at any time.
The method is safe and proven  :).

I understand, if I rename the file as .DLL it will work again.

Thanks.
