U.S. Navy Golden Age markings
« on: August 21, 2021, 02:58:40 PM »

Browsing through online images of golden age US Navy planes, I realized all the different color markings are really confusing.  Luckily, I came across a site that helps clarify things.
http://www.pmcn.de/English/USN%20Markings%20I/USN%20Markings%20I.htm#top

Another site with pre-1935 markings too:

The cybermodeller site was my go-to site as well. It covers the all basics for carrier based planes.

It gets more complex when you need info about cruiser based planes and scout squadrons.
For example there was a regulation marking for a fourth plane in a flight: stripe on top and bottom of cowl.
