On September 26, 1914, almost two months after the outbreak of the "Great War," at 6:45 in the morning a German airship appeared over the capital of the Congress Kingdom, gliding from the west on the Warsaw-Vienna Railway line. Anti-aircraft defenses put up a fight; there were dead and wounded on the Russian side. The German "cigar" dropped two bombs, one of which failed to explode, and the other destroyed a booth and telephone pole.
