There is only one question:
1. Why, in the 3D setting for a specific program, in the "Software settings" tab, did you choose
GeForse Expirence 3.0 ?
It is necessary to select the EXE file of the IL-2 Sturmovik game.
Only then will the software-specific settings of the video card be applied to the IL-2.

There should be : "IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battle+Ace Expantion Pack(il2fb.exe)"
Go yourself, select the il2fb.exe file in the game folder.

Select the il2fb.exe file in the game folder and set the settings as in my screenshots.
Don't forget to click "Apply" at the bottom of the page.

 :(   Excuse my mess! I inadvertently moved the cursor while editing the screenshot .. In "Select a program to customize" is entered "Il-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battle + Ace Expansion Pack (Il2fb.exe) exactly as you suggested. Thanks for your valuable advice .. somewhere there will be a solution (I'll try to follow Storebror's suggestions!)

Note: I've not downloaded this yet, and so am going purely on supposition...  ;)

The 'twinkle or shimmer' aspect seems to be suggestive of the effect of a high-detail texture whose .mat file has tfMipMap 0. If you change it to 1, the game will alter the resolution so as to not underample the image.

Depending on the texture size assigned for each LOD, you may need to alter more than one .mat file.

Or you can tweak the LOD values in the mesh.

Textures tuned for a given screen resolution could exhibit little anomalies when displayed at a notably different screen rez.

Just some potentialities to explore.

Grass uses 4 Lods

60,160,1800,5000


Texture size:

LOD0-1024 use tfMipMap 0
LOD01-512 use tfMipMap 1
LOD02-256 use tfMipMap 1
LOD03-128 use tfMipMap 1

Thanks for releasing the mod!
Still waiting for your multimonitor mod ;-) I follow this for years and I'm very excited about every new video.
But as every flightsimmer we are all experts in waiting for things.

Great work again!
Will try the grass as soon as possible!

Hello carsmaster, managed to get this working in my 4.12 install, thank you very much, really appreciated.  ;)

For me sadly it reduces the FPS down to around 12 so for my machine I think not really suitable for game play, however, it does look spectacular even so,
those flowers are awesome. :o

Great work anyway pushing the boundaries of the old game, just shows what can be done still with something so old. 8)

I'm sorry, but alas, weak computers won't be able to handle a lot of our "graphical" desires.

For those not in possession of a Cray supercomputer...

I just installed, and within 5 minutes made a big improvement.

As I suspected, the 'shimmer' is due to the .mat files having tfMipmap 0.

I made EVERY .mat file entry read as tfMipmap 1. Including those files employing 2 or 3 layers.

This gets rid of the 'shimmer' and makes for a more organic appearance.

But better still!...

Where at first my FPS was as low as 4 (!!!), now it's shot up to a minimum of 55. Yay!

Why the huge boost in FPS? At tfMipmap 0, the textures are always drawn at maximum resolution. Hence the 'shimmer when this needless hyper-resolution results in vast undersampling. And it wastes precious resources in calculating all those pixels piled on top of each other.

I recommend to update the archive accordingly for future users...
