Hello everyone, I'm Tommaso, I live in Italy and this is my first post on the SAS forum, which (I must admit) is quite amazing.
Anyway, I recently bought IL-2 1946 on steam even though I already had a CD version because it was just €2 and I thought that the Steam edition might have been easier to mod. By the way, my PC is an Asus ROG GL-703, a gaming laptop with 16 GB of ram, an Nvidia GTX 1050 Graphics card, intel i7 7th gen, so it's not the most powerful PC in the world but it works fine and I play a lot of games on it, like War Thunder, DCS, IL-2 BoS, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, FSX, and other games, and they all have better graphics than IL-2 1946 but they still run very well (i get around 50 FPS on war thunder on medium to high settings and round 40 FPS on DCS still on medium to high settings). I used to play on the CD version of IL-2 1946 and it worked just fine, even though I found it quite difficult to mod. That's why I decided to try the steam edition as well, but the problem is that whenever I load a flight, I get around a frame every 15 to 20 seconds. That's quite strange. I tried to put max power settings on my PC, i installed the IL-2 Selector mod and chosen 1024 MB (i think 1024 is the highest limit you can choose in IL-2 Selector), I tried to fix the game through Steam, I tried a fresh install around 4 times but it still doesn't work. I remember that the first time I started the steam edition it worked just fine, then I tried to install the Graphics Extender mod and that's when it started presenting this issue, so maybe the problem is related to the mod installation, but that's weird because I uninstalled it, deleted all the files and reinstalled it again and it still lags a lot, even without the graphics extender mod. Can someone please help me? And if you want, can you give me a step-by-step guide (even with the most basic steps, like installing the mod activators and all the fundamental stuff) on how to install Graphics extender mod? One last thing, i noticed that the steam version is something like 4.13.other number, so maybe it's the wrong version? I really don't know and I'm not very good with all the computer stuff, I'm much better at flying (and still I'm not exceptional at it either LOL!).
Anyways, if someone can help, please let me know!! Have a nice day everyone!
Greetings
Tommaso

First: you do not provide any revealing information, you write about "modding difficulty" without any concrete. The only information you give is that you probably have version 4.13.
Your PC should allow you to play at maximum graphics at 1920x1080 at 60 FPS or higher (I played with i7 3rd gen. and GTX 960 at 2560x1440 at over 60 FPS, GTX 960 is only slightly better than 1050, 10-15%).
As for your installation, without any concrete information about your modding attempts (what you have tried to install, in which order, with which configuration etc.) it is not possible to say anything at all. Only that you must be doing something wrong to have such low FPS.

If you have a DVD of Il-2 1946, you have the best possible base, you just need to install it, add pach "no CD", and then depending on what you want to install as game version (modpack, individual mods etc), install patches to get 4.10 or 4.12 (Mega Patches of your choice) and then either some modpack (UP, DBW, VP Modpack, BAT etc...) or individual mods according to your choice (e.g. with SAS Modact). Just download and install as instructed, and then enjoy (don't forget to make backups). If you really follow the instructions, there is no chance that something will not work.

Hello. The CD version works just fine, I installed all the mods in order but Graphics Extender doesn't work, but besides that, it runs smoothly at 60 fps. But with the steam edition (it is 4.13.13m I think), I get a frame every 20 seconds even without any mod, i tried reinstalling it several times, deleting each and every mod, but it still doesn't work.

You need to "downgrade" the 4.13 to 4.10 or .12 to get modsto work in that setup. Do a seaarch on the forum on how to. There´s a topic that can help you here somewhere.
