Birds of the Reich defense part 4: Doras
« on: June 22, 2010, 11:30:55 AM »

get it here:

http://www.axis-and-allies-paintworks.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=100&t=458

The package will contain marked and generic skins from JG 54, JG 301, IV./JG 3, JG 4, JG 6 - perhaps some JG 2 and 26 Doras, but i´m not sure about it, yet.

Here some pics of the early Doras from III./JG 54 - done after endless work with Jesters template:

Fitz Ungar october 1944

Werner Rupp, december 1944

and Jg 54 generics (markings from Il2/MatManager)

You have a really great style to painting these classic "bad guys" skins.
I personally enjoy the fine work you have been doing with them all.
Fantastic job and I applaude your dedication to the skinning art with
much enthusiasm!
CONGRATULATIONS on another superb skinpack!  8)
Thank you!

thx for your kind words, makes a great boost of the production performance :)

i´ve made some more planes ... another JG 54 early Dora, red 11, 12./JG54 May 1945

an early JG 301 Dora 9, yellow 15, autumn 1944

Black 1 of IV./JG 3, 1945

note the unpainted wing roots

and the unpainted underside of the wings

Gerhard Michalski´s Dora of Stab JG4

i have seen a dozen of profiles about this plane, all different, some with RLM 75/83 and some with RLM 82/83 upper side ... if someone has a reliable source, please let me know

... and a generic WKN 500 xxx, just for preparing the template for the late war planes

Hi Boelcke,
Thanks on more time for your profiles :)
I had a look in Crandall Vol. 1 and according to him <1 + - is 74/75/76, with engine's upper portion spots in 76 and spots of 75 on sides. His interpretation is based on color pictures that are in the book and on the cover BTW.
Cheers

Messcaster, thx for reply

well, it's a mess with these latewar Luftwaffe skins ... Phase3 reported that the Japo Book Pt 2 also goes with RLM 82/83 ... Who knows what is correct ...

I think it has to be 82/83 cause JG 4 recieved its first two Doras in Dezember 44, at that time the planes were painted in 82/83 before delivery - but perhaps i am also wrong.

Right it is a real mess!!
I had always thought that it was 82/83 and it seem very logical (!) but, in this special case Crandall found (and it is very rare!) color pictures of <1 + - (WNr 600150) and leave no doubt about his actual color: 74/75/76.
As you said, hard to find a logic in the late war camouflages...

A lovely picture ... but were Doras ever painted in 74/75/76? It has to Be 75/83/76 (?) ... Man a complete mess :)

:) Honestly I don't know if other late series are painted like that... Some prototypes were. Perhaps were they exceptions in one serie because of shortcoming of paint?
75/83/76 I don't know... I think that the difference between 75 and 83 would be more contrasted. Don't you think? Let say that I belive in Crandall, the god of the 190  ;)

PS: OberstDanjeje no pdf...
