Old missions

Is there a guide or list of things that need to be checked when single missions crash at the start. i.e. plane crashes or blows up?  All of the Channel missions and at least the coral sea missions do in Bat 4.1 or 4.12.2m SAS.  If there are missing aircraft or ships, you get a message that you can act on in FMB or the mission text file.  Suggestions?
