Also, I keep copies of my install on a separate drive and it fires up no problem so I dont think it's a graphics card issue.

Hi bombsaway,

you are only only BAT 3.6? Is it worth  upgrading to 3.83 to see waht happens then?

Thank you but this is the install I'm using to work on some things. I want to find out why this won't start.

I know this problem too, but only experience it when there are classfiles in the game that BAT dont like - for example a whole lot of stuff from aviaskins shows this behaviour when added to a working BAT install; last instance was a Yak mod (opening canopies and stuff) from their site; so if you have added any additional mods, retrace from that direction to find the culprit...

and just as a hint: my il2ge folder containing all the classfiles for the graphics extender sits in STD/com/maddox
maybe thats the problem...

This is a silly question, but did you by any chance change the RAM setting in the BAT selector?

This sort of problem is very difficult to pin down. The best advice I can give is to backup the active mods folder for whatever era you're using and replace it with a blank one, then copy the mods over from the backup one by one.

I've gotten this before: one of the causes is the game trying to load poorly formed classfiles—i.e. I tried to modify the TA_152C.class once, but forgot to set the cockpitClass property as a list instead of a single cockpit class, which caused a crash with a logfile that gave no indication of error. It may also be incompatible RAM settings or an incompatible screen resolution or screen settings in the conf.ini.

The classic issue on modder game installs suddenly to fail starting (and you are a modder) is this (see the linked reply #1 and the following #2):
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,37848.msg419233.html#msg419233

If that's not the case, do as being told here (no need to install that Selector, you've got a newer version in BAT already):
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,16403.msg626272.html#msg626272
The old "Startup Debugger" now ships with the Selector by default, it's the "console.exe" file found in your IL-2 game folder after installing the Selector.
If your game crashes before it can create any log output, please double-click "cmd.exe" in your IL-2 game folder, then enter
Code: [Select]
console 2>&1 | tee startuplog.txtand hit Enter.
This will create a file "startuplog.txt" in your IL-2 game folder where more detailed error information can be seen.
Additionally, you will see the same log output in the console window.

Hi, I had exactly the same issue - CTD @ 20%. Reinstalled BAT Pegasus fixed it for me.

I have figured this out but still stumped as to why this has happened. This version I was running was BAT Blitz. It always takes me longer to update to the latest release because of the mods I'm working on in an install.
Now, I had been running this install for a long time and had always used PAL Visual Mod

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42495.0.html

I had this mod in my install and then one day the game would not start. Hence I posted this thread. After not being able to find the issue then, I downloaded the latest BAT and updated to 3.8.4 and moved on not knowing why the old install had stopped until today. I had always liked the visual mod so I tried to put it in my fresh install and BOOM same thing. Game would not start and would not generate a log file.

Now here's the funny thing. As I said I had this in my old install and it worked fine until that one day. I had not added anything new nor updated anything. So after seeing what happened in my fresh install I removed the mod from my old install and it started up with no problem.
I can understand how in my fresh install how it may be conflicting with something in the SFS mods files but I can't understand how just out of the blue it killed my old install until I removed it.

I'm writing this so if someone else has a game that just stops working they can look to see if they have this mod and they can try to remove and see if it helps. Also to ask if any of the guys who helped make BAT might have an idea of why this mod now stops the game from starting.

Hi Bombs,

VisualMod contains non-critical incompatibilities and some bugs I fixed in my spin-offs but it still works in (stock) BAT. Just make sure it is at the top in your #MOD3 folder/s.
