Hi Ya'll, Ye Old Farang65 is Back What the ... Oh My God!
« on: May 19, 2020, 07:21:39 PM »

Well, well, well,

I haven't been near the SAS for such a long time::(
Way too much work coaching English to software engineers
Very little time off a few days or so for border runs and an annual 5-day holiday to Laos for a visa (so short)
My wife's coffee and cake shop going strong as usual.
Then COVID 19 engulfed the planet
She had to shut her shop for a while. She has just opened up now for cake only 1 customer at a time hand cleaner masks and social distancing
We started building a house last year see pics below.
I have a very funky area for work/models and cats  :D
Very surprised that the builders are building it but they did give us a 200-day contract  ;)

I have caught up now with all BAT installs up to PEGASUS and the updates.  ;D
I found a working 4.12 with some maps still kicking around on it.  ;)

Maps of interest still mostly unfinished but very workable and doable all in different stages

Bangkok to Laos Air America
Laos Vietnam Ho Chi Min Trail
Taiwan/China Sino China?Japanese War W W 2 and Just after the Chinese Civil War P38 P51 vs Mig 15s
Morotai and Halmahera (Japanese fortress island) plus more islands WW 2 Pacific
Peru/Ecuador A short war near WW 2 Peru used a lot of Italian aircraft. They also made the first parachute jump for combat

Night and Day pics of the house Getting very close to Lock Up stage now  8)

It feels great to be back  ;D

I sure hope everyone here is safe and sound regarding the current world situation

Cheers,
Kirby

In Thailand ? So nice for you ! In which city ???

Do you know... I retire from work in 4 years (a bit more), and with my wife (Asian, but not Thai), we plan to leave Switzerland, and go to live in Thailand ! I have visited a bit, and from what I know until now, my choice would be Kanchanaburi, because I am interested in history, and there is plenty there !!!

This year, I have booked to go to Chiang Mai a few days in September. There, I will make something I never did in Thailand until now : driving ! Plan to rent a motorcycle, to see how I go along with traffic (motorcycle easier than car : even if they drive "on the wrong side", my angles of view will not change with a motorcycle, and to have more concentration on the traffic, will rent same model as I have home, so I take something I perfectly know). Just hope it will be possible now, with this stupid pandemic...

I better not say all that I think about this pandemic... but the most important for me is the social aspect (especially unemployment) now, because hundreds of millions of peoples have been thrown into misery, often in touristic countries without social protection : no tourists, no income source for the population (even saw few weeks ago in an online Thai newspaper that COVID pandemic has caused many suicides in Thailand, caused by economic despair... which are making more deathes than the virus...)... so sad ! for many peoples, actual situation must be terrible in countries like Thailand, I guess... and probably more terrible than the pandemic itself !!! This is why I think that the world urgently needs to reopen completely, with deplacement and travel complete liberty. If actual situation continues, misery will cause much more deathes than the pandemic... this is why I can say that I am not afraid of the virus, but I am terrorized by the consequences of the closure of international economies and borders which cause general misery and can have desastrous consequences, much more desastrous than the virus itself.

Wow! Thanks for the compliment vonofterdingen  ;) :)

For Gaston

I live in Lamphun near Chiangmai about 40 minutes away
Be careful driving Thailand has one of the worlds worst road accident/injury/death rate in the world
Regarding COVID
My wife built up her business over 14 years She had an excellent customer following. She had to shut shop for a couple of months just recently.
Customers always still wanting cake but no cake.
She reopened just for cake no coffee too many issues with social distancing
She is getting back to normal slowly but 1 customer at a time hand gel and face mask
The government for married foreigners gave us a 3-month amnesty during the emergency decree
Will go to Chiang Mai immigration and extend old visa around July 31st
So that tells you how long the government is planning for an emergency decree,
September should be fine regarding smoke
Google Chiang Mai smoke season but now it is most of the year except for the rainy season and a little bit of winter.
Check this newspaper link for news about Thailand/COVID
