Inserting images in My Messages
« on: April 18, 2020, 02:43:11 AM »

OK, this is very embarrassing......

Would some kind soul explain to me how I insert an image into a message in the My Messages section ?
I've spotted the INSERT IMAGE button which works, but I can neither drop & drag or copy and paste a .jpg file between the brackets.......

I'll just sit in the DIM corner over here until I receive the blindingly obvious answer............................................................................................>   :-[

Cheers

I suppose you are talking about this insert image button?

That one only provides the tags needed for an image link so the image is going to be embedded. We do not provide the possibility to upload pictures directly to our forum server.

However, when you reply to a post (or open a new topic) we included a link included to a third party hoster for images (you can of course use any other service of you choice here, too):

Unfortunately that link will not get displayed when writing / reply to a PM, so you will have to go directly to the page of your image hosting service in this case.

Once you uploaded the image to postimages.org for example, you will get the following set of links to choose from (you even get the possibility to delete your image with the delete link to the very bottom):

You can use the upper highlighted one in combination with the tags provided insert img button. The second highlighted text already has these included, so you can simply click on the copy button to the right (blue) and then paste it into your message text. In the end it should look like this:

On the CloudyNights.com forums, members can upload images directly from their computers. Very progressive!

As noted, here we must utilize an intermediary host. :(

It's all about space and bandwidth available to the server machine - and how much money you can pay for that.

Is that really so much of a hassle to you? I find the option added to the reply dialogue to be very convenient.

There's always someone to complain about something.
People tend to forget that there's no such thing like a free dinner.
Webspace costs money.
Managed webspace even more so.
Some people think they're extra clever and host their stuff on self-serviced root vserver systems - cheaper than a hundred megs managed webspace, and you get terabytes of storage.
That's the ones you see complaining about others "hacking" their stuff later on.
Not our cup of tea.

Kameraden,
I didn't *intend* to come across as purely sniping. It was more an acknowledgement by way of 'comiserative trash talk.' You know, one way birds of a feather support one another. ;) .Think back to the 'griping' scene in Saving Private Ryan. ;)

Unfortunately, the written word can often enough fail to convey true meaning. Especially when one is more technically inclined, and not instinctively gifted at conveying humor.
