I have the original Carrier Crew Mod from Ranwers and recently added the Yorktown 'update' by Squashman (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,61871.0.html).
Ironically it seems every carrier has deck crew except the Enterprise (42) and Yorktown.  What am I missing?

I've tried activating just the Yorktown mod and also with both activated but in both instances the two carriers I'd like to see crew on are the only ones without!

Help please (I'm using HSFX 7 with Expert mode and C&C mod activated).

UPDATE:  After some testing in FMB I'm guessing that the two carrier models I have are not the Plowshare or Asheshouse versions.  I've tried with the original Carrier Crew V5 and the Yorktown Class 'update' separately and in both cases all carriers have crews except the Enterprise and Yorktown.

Or perhaps it's an HSFX thing and it simply won't work?

I'll check for the Plowshare and Asheshouse carriers and see if that sorts things out.  However, if there is a known solution please advise.

Tomoose

Have you checked the names of the folders containing the ships (in ships.ini) for a match?

Epervier;
thanks for the tip but what exactly should I be looking for?  I'm not that experienced with those particular .ini files.

I assume Epervier means that you should check that the names of the Deck Crew folders match the names of the ships in the chief.ini and ship.ini files

The ini files are found in the STD folder. For HSFX I think this is; HSFX/MODS/STD/com/Maddox/il2/objects/chief.ini

ie. Chief.ini entries for the ships you mention

 USSEnterpriseCV6_42       ships.ShipAsheUSS$USSEnterpriseCV6_42     1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat
 USSEnterpriseCV6_44       ships.ShipAsheUSS$USSEnterpriseCV6_44     1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat
 USSYorktownCV5_42         ships.ShipAsheUSS$USSYorktownCV5_42     1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat

The Deck Crew folders should match the names of the ships exactly,

ie. The names of the individual deck crew folders

 USSEnterpriseCV6_42
 USSEnterpriseCV6_44
 USSYorktownCV5_42

If the folders do not match the chief.ini file then change the name of the folders to match exactly

Thanks Squashman.

These are the lines from the chief.ini file

USSYorktownCV5_42     ships.Ship$USSYorktownCV5_42       1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat
USSEnterpriseCV6_42   ships.Ship$USSEnterpriseCV6_42     1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat

I noticed that in the 'original' Carrier Crew V5 that the Enterprise isn't even one of the carrier folders.  If I take the Enterprise folders from the 'updated' Carrier Crew and add it to the original Carrier Crew V5 would that make a difference?

Ships.ini !
eg. in my 409/UP2.01 :
[USSEnterpriseCV6_42]
Description  Yorktown Class Carrier
Icon         shipDestroyer
// Model
Mesh         3do/Ships/USSEnterpriseCV6_42/Hier.him

[USSYorktownCV5_42]
Description  Yorktown Class Carrier
Icon         shipDestroyer
// Model
Mesh         3do/Ships/USSYorktownCV5_42/Hier.him

USSYorktownCV5_42     ships.Ship$USSYorktownCV5_42       1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat

I noticed that in the 'original' Carrier Crew V5 that the Enterprise isn't even one of the carrier folders.  If I take the Enterprise folders from the 'updated' Carrier Crew and add it to the original Carrier Crew V5 would that make a difference?

The Yorktown class carriers (Yorktown, Enterprise, Hornet) were not included in Ranwers original mod - I thought these important ships deserved deck crews so I simply used his figures to provide deck crews for them.
It will make no difference putting them in the original Ranwers v5 folder as everything required is included in my folders.

Check what Epervier says in the post above this one (in my post I forgot to address the naming protocols in the ships.ini file)

Also, I think the ship models are the same even though they have different references in HSFX eg.

in BAT
 USSEnterpriseCV6_42       ships.ShipAsheUSS$USSEnterpriseCV6_42     1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat
 USSEnterpriseCV6_44       ships.ShipAsheUSS$USSEnterpriseCV6_44     1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat
 USSYorktownCV5_42         ships.ShipAsheUSS$USSYorktownCV5_42     1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat

in HSFX
 USSYorktownCV5_42        ships.Ship$USSYorktownCV5_42       1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat
 USSEnterpriseCV6_42       ships.Ship$USSEnterpriseCV6_42     1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat

So everything should work ok

EDIT
Just dug out a copy of HSFX 7.03 and tested the deck crews for

USSYorktownCV5_42     ships.Ship$USSYorktownCV5_42       1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat
USSEnterpriseCV6_42   ships.Ship$USSEnterpriseCV6_42     1 icons/shipDestroyer.mat

Also confirmed ships.ini entries match eg.

[USSYorktownCV5_42]
Description  Yorktown Class Carrier

Icon         shipDestroyer

// Model
Mesh         3do/Ships/USSYorktownCV5_42/Hier.him

[USSEnterpriseCV6_42]
Description  Yorktown Class Carrier

Icon         shipDestroyer

// Model
Mesh         3do/Ships/USSEnterpriseCV6_42/Hier.him

Everything works fine!!!

If the ships.ini entries do not match as above then the new Hier.him files, which locate the deck crew figures, will not be selected and the figures will not show.

I'm obviously doing something wrong.  I checked the ships.ini file and the text is exactly as you have indicated.  Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot.  My 'path' is IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/Files/com/maddox/il2/objects/ships.ini

I de-activated the original Carrier Crew V5 and activated ! USN YorktownClass Deck Crew.

- I have an FMB mission set up with all the carriers in question;
   - Lex = no crew and Lex 42 = deck crew
   - Sara = deck crew
   - Essex 9= deck crew
   - Intrepid 11= deck crew
   - Yorktown = no deck crew
   - Enterprise = no dec crew
I noticed one thing when activating it which may be the issue.  Upon activating, a 3do folder is created in my main Il2 folder which I haven't seen any other 'activations' do.  This 3do folder has a 'ships' folder and subfolders for Enterprise, Hornet and Yorktown.
FYI - I have all my mods in the jsgmemods folder and activate with JSGME.exe.  Should this particular one be somewhere else?

Something is going wrong with the JSGME activation!!

It sounds like you have got the wrong folder structure for JSGME activation
De-activate what you have already done and try a manual install

Unzip the downloaded CV Yorktown Class Deck Crew mod;
this will produce a folder named "CV Yorktown Class Deck Crew"
Inside that folder is a folder named "! USN YorktownClass Deck Crew"
Simply drop this folder into your MODS Folder - that's it - Done.

A working JSGME folder structure would be something like;

 Yorktown Class Deck Crews/MODS/! USN YorktownClass Deck Crew

But try the manual install first to prove the mod works ok

Ooff!! The manual method made things weird in that when I cranked up my carrier test mission (basically seven different carriers all going in the same direction with me on the Enterprise), all carriers except the Lex versions were gone and I could not select them from the FMB Ships object list.  Once I removed !USN YorktownClass Deck Crew from the MODS folder the mission was back to normal (seven carriers but E and Y without deck crews).

Maybe I'd better leave well enough alone before I really screw something up LOL.

EDIT:  Just as a double-check I removed the original CarrierCrew V5 from the MODS folder and ran the mission.  All carriers there but no deck crew on any carrier.  I put it back and ran the mission again and the deck crews were there except for the Enterprise and Yorktown (and one version of the Lex) so I know that mod is in the right folder.  So your manual method suggestion should be correct but I guess I've screwed up something prior to this.

I don't know exactly what you've done but for information the Carrier Deck mod doesn't need any new Class. There are just meshs/mat/tga to add and modify the ships yesterday.him.
So it's weird that you can't get them right!
