Where to start with Great Battles ?
Sorry made post about wrong game last time!
Wanted info about IL2 GREAT BATTLES, not CLOD.
Is there a patching sequence or can an updated edition be bought?
Thank you and sorry for error.

You can't do much wrong in terms of updating BoX as you don't have to do it yourself. If you are not on the most recent version, you will get notified on startup (= you will only be able to use the sim in offline mode).
In order to update the sim you will need to run the updater executable shipped with the programme.
If you got it via Steam, then Steam will handle the updating process for you and you don't have to do anything (apart from launching Steam of course).

Apart from that, where to start? .. Well, from my experience, get your key bindings done. That's a bigger task than one might expect at first. ;)
A tip for that would be: Don't fall for the fallacy that you could recreate your key / button system from 1946. Treat BoX as a completely new and different sim, because that's what it is. If you try to simply overtake your 1946 settings you will only get frustrated.

Well finally did it and bought the three Great Battles.
Great graphics enjoyable in themselves. Quite disappointing otherwise but I suppose I expected too much.
Makes you realise though what an absolute achievement BAT is.
I was wondering is it possible to use Pat Wilsons mod with Stalingrad. I just want to add variety, something a bit more immersive and so on?
Having an awful time trying to spot enemy planes without labels too and that feels like cheating!
However, happy to have bought them, they may improve over time.

Just wanted to say that having got PWCG working now, [I am on steam] things are very enjoyable.
Still can't see the foe very well but it does keep you on your toes and just a little nervous!

You may want to set "alternate visibility" in difficulty settings "on" and/or enable any of the custom icons mods:

(They are less intrusive than the stock icons with captions.)

Well, played quite bit now and really do like the look of things. But, it's AI behaviour again i'm afraid.
Have got very tired of being chased by damaged, smoking planes. Being chased over half of Russia by a long, long line of enemy planes all the way to my home base. Ignored by squadron mates and not helped by friendly ground over my own landing strip. Have lost a chase with a smoking Stuka even though my Yak was doing over 400 klm an hour. This when I decided to leave it. Lots of eye candy things going on but, like I said, it's the AI that spoils it.
Sorry, I know most of you are perfectly aware of all this, but I just had to get it off my chest!

AI planes became player stalkers lately.
The devs don't admit it, but we've seen this happening on our server over and over again in the recent past.
AI planes completely abandon orders except for highest priority ones (which in turn make them ignore being attacked themselves... *sigh*), and instead "see" players at the other end of the map with their magic eyes, at distances easily in exceed of a hundred miles, and chase them across half russia.
And if you think you could drag these stalkers back home for your AI buddies to pick up on 'em: Forget it. Your own AI buddies will ignore those who are stalking and attacking you, until that very moment when you've managed to get on the six of one of them and "almost" finish them. That's when your AI buddies jump in, to put the final bullet into planes you've almost downed. Ignoring yourself of course, read: Don't stand in their way. They blow you out of the skies in order to steal your kill.

At the moment, your AI buddies are the biggest danger in the skies, closely followed by AI planes on the other end of the map which you don't even know of (yet).

Spot on Mike.
Thank you for that.
It could be a great game. Perhaps one day it will, if they are willing to work on it?
